I was glad I had this!
I got my machine at the insistence of my wife. I have found it to be a godsend for getting the snow out of the way, and it allows me to even help my neighbors with their snow.
In the Mid-Atlantic we had two back-to-back monsters that set all kinds of records. I was glad I had it.
As for as the shear bolts that I ordered after I broke the second one, I realized that the special shear bolt is absolutely essential for these machines.
If you have shear bolts on your machine order lots of extras, and never use anything else as a replacement. If you try using something else you will do so at your peril.

Small Size Does A Good Job
I bought this model because of it's small size. It is lighter and smaller than other 5 HP models I found. It takes up about as much room in the garage as a power mower.
This is not my first experience with snowblowers. I lived in Alaska for years and now live in the front range area of Colorado and have owned several snowblowers.
I am impressed with the quality of this unit and it's performance is on par with other 5 HP models I have owned. It has electric start, but I have never needed to use it. It starts right up with the pull starter.
It travels a little slow, but I have found it is easy to push if there are just a few inches of snow. I don't use the drive system unless the snow is deep and heavy.
Under those conditions I have found any 5 HP snowblower would have to move pretty slow. I hope this helps someone.

It has plenty of power, but the one speed is awful slow.
It is hard to walk that slow.

Slow & Steady Wins The Race
Ariens makes two versions of a 5-HP two-stage snow blower. One version has six speeds. This version has only one speed.
Why would anyone want it?
Simple. Not everyone can leap tall buildings in a single bound.
If you're not willing to trot behind your snow blower, you don't need multiple speeds.
Slow and steady will win the race. Plus, it'll save you a considerable amount of money!

Good Deal On a Reliable Thrower
I ordered this Ariens 520EC from you because of your reputation as a solid internet retailer. The thrower arrived very promptly since I added priority shipment to my order, and I could not be happier.
I have quite a few acres of land and a long winding driveway, which this thing makes short work of. I strongly suggest making the extra investment with the snow cab and the clean out tool (if your model doesn't already come with this feature).
The cab keeps me warm with the strong winter wind, while the clean up tool makes short work of removing anything caught underneath in the blades (plus it keeps your hands safe!) It wouldn't hurt to have some shear pins hanging around either...
Thanks so much!
