You can't really appreciate the power of sports car if you've driven junk all of your life. The same goes with snow blowers.
I shared a Yard Machines 4.5-HP snow blower with my neighbor for six years. (See his "Snow Story").
This winter, my neighbor decided to move. According to our original plan, the last person in the subdivision kept the snow blower. In other words, it was mine.
Unfortunately, I got a little careless this fall. I'm a Miami Dolphins fan and my neighbor's a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. They played each other on Monday night football.
We revised our agreement, and the winner got to keep the snowblower. Granted, we made the bet in the pre-season before the Dolphins lost 15 out of 16 games.
If you recall the game, it was scoreless for three quarters and the Steelers kicked a game winning field goal at the end of the game. A very weak win indeed.
So, I lost the snow blower. Oh well.
I decided to upgrade and took an Ariens 5-HP single-stage snow blower home. Talk about night and day. The Ariens literally blew the Yard Machines away.
Best of all, it features a Quick-Turn Chute Crank. With the Yard Machines, I had to crank it for an eternity everytime I turned around. With the Ariens, you simply point the lever to where you want to blow the snow.
I was so impressed with the Ariens that I revised my previous reviews.
As for my neighbor, he can have his Yard Machines. You can bet that I'm keeping the Ariens instead!
