Ariens 624e Shear Bolts
I purchased an Ariens 624e from Snow Blowers Direct in 2008. The website was easy to navigate and find the right snow blower. The delivery was trouble free. After several uses, it took some fine tuning to get the proper height adjustment. The other issue was that Ariens skid plates are metal, which caused some problems on my paved driveway. I replaced the skids with rubber based material. That made a world of difference.
In the most recent, historic snow fall of this year (2011), I tore a shear bolt. I didn't realize that was the issue, but after doing a little internet research on the fact that only one side of my auger was turning, I diagnosed the shear bolt issue. I then ordered the replacement part and watched a DIY video on replacement. I received the part in a few days and replaced the bolt trouble free. Back to snow blowing!

Great Customer Service
I knew I needed to order shear bolts but the part number I had was different from the part number on your site.
I emailed Customer Service and received a response within minutes. I ordered the parts and they were shipped out that day!
You can not beat that kind of support and without a doubt if I have other snow blower needs Snow Blowers Direct.com will be the first thing that comes to mind.

Go Buffalo
I live in Buffalo, home of "lake effect" snow.
Nothing so far seems to get in the way of this beast- this is my second Ariens. I had a single stage, 5 HP and sold it to my buddy (he loves it).
I needed a bigger one for my new driveway. I have a paved driveway and a wood deck that the unit does a nice job clearing.
I even got my neighboor to go out and buy the same one!

Shear Pin-prepare In The Fall
On my maiden voyage with our new 624E I ran into a hidden cement lawn ornament! No problem, I installed the new shear pin I found in the bag holding the manual.
I also shredded some plants due to the section of the sidewalk only being 18 inches wide and the blower 24 inches!
My wife took a turn too so she will be prepared to take over when I am gone.
Next fall we will need to do some snow planning so the yard and sidewalks are ready for us.

Always Starts, Even In Sub-zero Weather
We have been having a record year for snow here in Southwest Colorado.
I bought this just before the winter hit. I have been using it HARD. It always starts, even in sub zero weather. I have yet to need the electric start feature.
I have a gravel driveway and wood decks, and it clears both with ease. The fit and finish of this product is extraordinary.
Oil changes are easy due to the oil drain plug placement, and it will go unbelievably long on a small tank of gas.
I would recommend this snow thrower without reservation.

Won't Start After Summer
I purchased this December 2007 and it worked well last winter. I stored it indoors over the summer with fuel stabilizer (same mixture that worked in my lawn mower over the winter), and it flat out won't start this year. Having paid 4x what a lawn mower costs, this snow thrower should be at least as tough as the lawn mower, instead it's a total prima dona. All the time saved by not shoveling is being wasted on maintenance. Absurd.

Ran For 3 Hours Then Blew Up
I bought a brand new Ariens 624E four weeks ago. Supported the local dealer - trying to do the right thing.
It ran for three hours before the auger and discharge impeller completely froze. The engine starts but when you try to engage the auger it seizes and kills the engine. Looks like there's oil all over the seam of the gearcase. Hmm, sure looks like manufacturer defect.
Then the local dealer had the nerve to suggest I'm at the bottom of a 3 week service cue, no backup units to support.
Incredibly disappointed. Never buying one again. You shouldn't either. Never recommending that dealer.

Works Great!
This machine starts right up and moves snow quickly.
Here is the best part: You can move snow and adjust the throwing direction at the same time.
I thought all snow blowers with chute controls could do this but they can't. Also this one lets you shift on the fly forward or reverse, and it covers a lot of ground fast.
This blower works rather good, I should try it with sno-jet.

Ariens 624 Review
I bought an Ariens 624e in 2007. I wanted a small snowblower that would handle a 2X2 driveway in southern Ontario. I also wanted one small enought to fit in garage.
The build quality is excellent. One thing I noticed when shopping around is that on some of the cheaper snowblowers you could bend the metal at the front with your hands. I expect to have this snowblower for years so I wanted top quality.
Overall, the machine works quite well, I don't mind the 24" path it creates. It's kind of fun using this machine; it starts well on the first pull, and the gears are good as well.
The only complaint might be that I have to keep reaching forward to adjust the snow deflector, and the snow blower is light and sometimes it rides above the hard packed snow created from tires. It's not a big deal....but maybe something to consider.
I would reccoment the 624e.

Why You Should Stay Home And Save Money
Went to a Big Box store to buy a two-stage snow blower. The whole experience was terrible.
Since this model is too big to fit in my car, I want it delivered to my house instead. The whole special order process took hours.
Their inital price at $749.99 was attractive. Then they wanted another $114.86 for shipping. Plus, another $53.99 in sales tax.
Home Depot wanted $917.85 when the dust settled. Snow Blowers Direct price is a lot less without the shipping and sales tax.
I cancelled my order with Home Depot, and ordered online from Snow Blowers Direct. Don't know why I even left the house in the first place! :)

It's nice to have six slow-to-fast forward speeds for various conditions. The reverse speed prevents you from having to horse around a heavy machine.
This baby is also capable of doing gravel driveways. Try doing that with a smaller single stage without taking out all the windows of your neighbor's house.
Really no need at the moment for the electric start, since it cranked right up on the second pull.
