Q: I'm looking for an Ariens 2 Stage gas snowblower, preferably with a Briggs and Stratton engine, OHV, and at least 7-8 HP. I'd like to have an electric start option, with a pull cord for manual starting. I would prefer to have a manual chute, and am not interested in extras like the hand warmers or the headlight. I would go as small as a 22", or as large as 26". I'd probably rather go with a 22" or 24", as long as I was still able to get the 7-8 HP.

A: Your best option is going to be the Deluxe 24" from Ariens. This is going to have about a 8.25 HP engine. It would also have the manual chute control. It would have a headlight, but none of the other options you don't care about. This would also have electric start as well as recoil. This would be a 120V electric start. Take a look at model 921031.

Well to start off with, my snow blower was on its way earlier than I expected which is a good thing. I really did not get to use it yet but I tried it out on some leftover snow from a couple of days ago. The only problem so far is the plug for the light.
The customer service from Snow Blower Direct was 100% outstanding, I just wish all companies would do the same. The freight company was just as good. Keep up the good customer service . The snow blower itself is high quality craftsmanship and everything fits the way it's supposed to. Very easy to assemble and no missing parts. I'm happy with it.

I just bought one of the last three of this model before it was discontinued. The online ordering process with Snow Blowers Direct was easy and painless. They had it delivered intact and on time as promised.
Setting up my new snowblower out of the box was simple and straight-forward, and I was very satisfied with the quality and appearance of my new machine. I added about a cup of oil to the engine crankcase and a little gas to the tank to test it out. I gave the engine four primes and some choke, and it started on the first pull (the electric start also works fine).
Not having any snow to test on, I ran the machine forward in the 6 gears and two reverse. I powered up the auger. Everything functioned normally except for the head light which didn't illuminate. A quick check with a multimeter showed an output of 26 VAC from the engine, but the feed cable to the lamp was defective. I gave Snow Blowers Direct a call, and they patched me through to Ariens parts department. Ariens admitted to having some quality issues with their lamp cables and shipped me a new one. I've also ordered a pair of after-market Armor Skids for use on my gravel driveway. My machine is now 100 percent up and running, and I can't wait for the next East Mountain snow.
I love my new snowblower, and I highly recommend Snow Blowers Direct.

Ice/snow
Have not had a deep snow here in the mountains of Georgia but have had a mix of ice and snow. The chute will freeze up and make it hard to discharge. Also when changing the oil there is no outlet to attache a tube to keep the oil from running down the side of the engine.
Other than these few problems I am very happy with this Snow Blower, now just need some deep snow.

Best snow blower
The blower was delivered as per the promise and trucking company was kind enough to unload at no cost to me. I opened it and it took me 10 minutes to assemble it and off I went. I had 17 inches of snow and the blower did a good job in throwing the snow off my drive way to about 30 feet with little assistance. The problem I had was when I had to clear the snow where the snow plow had left a 4 x 3 ft of snow at the edge of my drive way. I was able to clear 10" of the snow mountain at a time. But using snow blower will take 2hrs to clear. Bottom line I like the way blower performed. I have used it 2 times already and never had a problem in starting the blower. I recommend snowblowersdirect to anyone.

All the way from the initial on-line purchase to the delivery at my front door step went smoothly. I received awesome updated emails of the status of the where abouts of my snow blower, so I knew almost exactly when it would arrive. The assembly out of the box was quick and easy. I put gas in, pulled the start handle three times and it started right up! I like the turtle/rabbit symbols on the gear handle cover. Reminds be of some of my coworkers, some move like turtles, some move like rabbits. But as a team we get quality product delivered to our customers just like Snowblower Direct. it does the job
I have resisted buying a 2 stage for 20+ years. I kept thinking my property didn't need it. Lately the snows are getting heavy and big! So I dumped the single stage that never worked and ordered the Ariens! WOW after an hour to put it together, it started right up and hasn't stopped or been stopped since. All of the features work like they should and it is super maneuverable!
I am glad I made the purchase and should have done it years ago.
The delivery came early. I was told the unit would ship on the 17th but it was at my local terminal on the 6th. Delivery was on the Tuesday the 10th, and late that night we got 14". I was soooooo glad I had my Ariens!

Great 920012 Purchase
A couple of weeks ago I bought the above snowblower. Even though it was done over the internet, the experience was pretty painless. It was shipped within 2 days of the order placement and arrived just a few days later.
Only 3 parts were required to be assembled for it's use. They are: HANDLE BARS, LIGHT ATTACHMENT & THROWER CHUTE. I had a question after it arrived and my call was returned promptly.
The blower itself is great. All quality parts, runs smoothly and is much quieter than my previous MTD. Usually in the past I wore earplugs but don't have to with my Ariens. All the parts and access to putting in gas, oil etc. are well made and easy to locate. When you turn the knob to adjust the thrower chute you can tell the difference in quality right away.
My neighbors have a new John Deere 24" and it runs much rougher, louder and is much less of pleasure to operate. I have another neighbor who just bought a new 26" unit from Menards and the operating experience is about the same as the John Deere. My Ariens has the same CC size engine as my neighbors 26". This is also the first time I've had a light on a snowblower and it is also great. The only small issue with that is I'm going to install a "on & off" switch because it's on all the time now.
I would definitely buy this or another Ariens again and do so from Power Equipment Direct!!
Ariens is also made in the "USA" and shows what quality we can produce when we put our minds to it!!

Quality & Value
I compared this product to a lot of others and realized the all metal design, joystick type, chute director and powerful engine, coupled with a good warranty & electric assist was a safe purchase.
WELL I LOVE IT! I was concerned about a back-order ship date no sooner than Dec. 27,2010 so I called to see how realistic that projected date was. The honest answer was that it was pretty close. I couldn't believe they actually DELIVERED it Dec 23! I had no assembly problems,and there are features that aren't even specified until you use this little BEAST.
I live on a farm and we got 2 feet of snow, more coming down, so I followed directions. It started on two pulls and I cleared two gravel driveways, A WOODEN DECK! and about 200 feet of walkways in just about an hour. I enjoyed this snowblower so much, I went up and cleared the horses paddock and gate area!
This was all done with a 22 inch snowblower in less than two hours and on my first "learning curve" attempt.
CANT BE BEAT FOR THE MONEY & the company is by far the least expensive (bought a Honeywell generator from sister company, same seamless process.)

This snow blower arrived just after our first winter blizzard of 26-inches. Let's just say that my back needed this snowblower because we've had two major snow storms since its arrival!
What a compact powerhouse! Its self-propelled wheels help tremendously on our driveway, which is on a steep incline. I had some questions about our state's percentage of ethanol in the gas affecting the blower's engine, but Snow Blowers Direct experts answered my question immediately--no, the Ariens engineers have built their engines taking this into account, just use high octane gas if your state uses ethanol, no additional additives are required.
So, if you're still shoveling snow and your back is aching, consider this Ariens snowblower.

My Ariens snow blower arrived in 6 days from Snow Blower Direct. I thought that was a long time from Illinois to Minnesota. I proceeded to install brackets and other loose hardware that came with the blower. The assembly was not difficult. I was missing some misc hardware, but the worst item was the decal on the dash panel is already coming off. I feel this was probably due to a wet panel when the decal was installed. Hopefully no other customer has this problem

This is my first snow blower
This blower works and set up was easy if you're following the check list. Blower started no problem. First use was wet snow and was a little difficult but it did the job well, the forward and reverse makes it easy. So far I'm happy

First time I used the snowblower, the auger belt came off after only one pass. I had the drive in first gear and was going cautiously.
Not happy with it as I already have to take it to the dealer. Wish I had purchased a different brand.

It was on back-order when I ordered it but I still received it before SBD stated it would be delivered. I received it the following week and it didn't have a scratch on it.
Its first use was in a blizzard where we got about 13 inches and it when through it like butter. I didn't want an overly big machine because I didn't feel I needed it so I wanted something smaller that could hold its own against the bigger machines and I must say it does since it has the same engine as the 24.
Another selling point was the metal chute where from my research most blowers don't have one, but it is important for reliable use. This unit fit all my needs and most of all it bared a reliable brand name and was priced at the lower end for a 2 stage blower, so it was a no-brainer.

Quick delivery, but missing parts for collapsible handle. Dealer was prompt in getting parts sent out. Light did not work. The blower does not match the performance of my former 30 year old single stage blower.
I live in the Colorado mountains, and the auger cannot handle the snow load. The unit ends up plowing the snow. The the drive wheels started slipping on the second day, hopefully more tightening the clutch will help with this. I've had it a few weeks, and wish I had my old blower back.
It could just be poor adjustment from the factory but I did not expect to have to seek service on the blower after the first couple uses.

Fantastic 22" blower
This snow blower is a really well built piece of equipment. All you need to do is compare the snow thrower chute to others to see the difference in quality. I have used it twice now to remove snow and what a wonderful machine. I highly recommend this to anyone.
PS. I have a artificial leg and have no trouble operating this blower.
