4 Questions
Q: Can this model clean down to the pavement? by Gregg from New Jersey on November 16, 2011
A: This unit would not get all the way down to the pavement, neither would any other two stage snow blower for that matter. The only units that would be able to clean all the way down to the pavement are going to be single stage snow blowers. Two stages cannot because the auger is steel and you would have your blades hitting the ground and you would shear pins and the auger would quit, not to mention the damage you would be doing to your gear box. by Kriss, Product Expert
Q: Do they come fully assembled and if not, what is the assembly charge? by Barry from New York on October 26, 2011
A: These unit will need some assembly. You would need to put the handle bars in their upright position and attach the chute. For shipping reasons we don't assemble the units. by Kriss, Product Expert
Q: What does "Cord not included on the electric start feature" mean? That the cord is not needed or i need to buy seperately? by Jim Peffall from Maryland on July 29, 2011
A: The cord is not included because it would be seperate in order to use the electric start. What can be used is a normal extension cord. So unless you wanted a smaller cord, you could use a cord you may already have.
Q: I am looking at the Ariens st22 but alittle concerned about the Chinese engine on this model verses the Briggs and Stratton engine on the 24 inch model. Are they comparable in quality and reliability by Edward Greenberg from New Jersey on July 09, 2011
A: I can understand your concern, but the the LCT engine has been a very durable engine and has been around for a few years now. The only concern to really be worried about should be service. There are a lot of Ariens dealers that will service the LCT engines, but they are going to be Master Dealers in the Ariens servicing channel. So not every Ariens dealer is going to be authorized to service LCT engines as the warranty goes through LCT, not through Ariens. With the Briggs and Strattons, this is not the case and every dealer will handle these.
I received my snowblower just in time as we had 10 inches of heavy wet snow two days after getting my machine. It works great and gave it a good workout. Everything is quality built with excellent workmanship. With the 6 speeds you can adjust travel for deep snow. Its small so it fits in my small garage. I even made some neighbors happy by cleaning their walk and driveway.

Quality Snow Blower
Delivery was on time, very easy to assemble. No issues at this point. I wish we had more snow so I could give it a real work out. I had a single stage for a few years but with high drifts the single stage could not get the job done. I can't wait until we get the big snow.
I love the fact Ariens is USA Made. The quality really shows. Thank you!

Receipt of brand new snow thrower
Got it in record time but it's already leaking oil. Will keep and eye on it but not real happy!

bad customer support
Received snow blower 3 weeks late. The handle bars wouldn't assemble. I contacted Ariens and they wouldn't send out a new blower. The snow blower is still at the service center and they don't know when I will get it back. Don't buy Ariens - they don't stand behind their product. Buy locally, at least you can bring it back if it doesn't work. So basically when it snows I'll be shoveling snow. I'm so glad I bought a $749.00 dollar snow blower.

Dead on arrival
After years using a small one stage snowthrower that managed through many blizzards in Michigan and Massachusetts, I decided to get a two stage to make the job easier. This model was on back order for a month but arrived this week. I put it together easily, but after multiple attempts with both the pull and electric start, no go. I called local Ariens service to make sure everything was adjusted, still nothing. Now I'll be putting this big paper weight into my SUV next week to take it for service. At least it's not snowing! I hoped for better from Ariens.

October New England Snowstorm
I received and assembled my Ariens Snowblower the day before a massive October New England snowstorm hit. The machine delivered was well packed and easy to assemble. The instructions were in clear English so it took about 1 hour to uncrate and have fully assembled, checked oil, added some gas and ready to go. I live in Massachusetts and am very accustomed to large snowstorms, but not in October. The snow was 15 inches in depth and very heavy and wet. The Ariens started up on the first pull. It powered through the heavy wet snow effortlessly. I did break a shear pin when I hit a snow-covered tree limb.

Oil leak that won't stop
I picked up a new Ariens Compact ST22LE at the Snow Blowers Direct warehouse. I noticed an oil spot in the box as I was unpacking the machine in my garage. The oil leak continued after unpacking, so I called Snow Blowers Direct and talked to Bob. He checked with others at the warehouse and called back to say the oil is probably leaking from the drain plug at the bottom of the engine. I checked and he was right about the source of the leak. Bob suggested I tighten the drain plug and wait to see if the leak would stop. I went through the tighten-and-wait procedure twice, with no success. Oil is still leaking from the drain plug. It was at the point where any further tightening would almost certainly cause the plug bolt to shear off, so I called back and talked to Bob again. He ordered a new drain plug and washer and had them sent directly to me from Ariens. I have installed the new plug bolt and washer and am now waiting to see if the leak has stopped. Why am I spending my time making phone calls and doing repair work on a brand new $700 machine that I've never even fueled or turned over? Very frustrating.

CAN'T WAIT!!
My new Ariens Compact ST22LE arived less than two weeks after I paid for it and now I'm waiting for snow. Assembly is quick and easy and she started on the first pull. I'm debating putting on chains even though it isn't recommended...but I'm on a hill and when it gets icy its tough getting up the hill. So kudos to Snowblowers Direct for their fast, economic and customer friendly service. Next is a new Lawn mower! Thanks

Ariens Model ST22LE
I am generally pleased with this snow blower except for one thing. We recently had 12" of wet, heavy snow. The one issue I had was that it seemed that it was easy to have the rear wheels lift off the ground if the front of the blower rides up on a snow clump. I also have an 8HP MTD blower and the wheels are much larger. It never does this. I was thinking of either getting chains or getting larger tires. The order and delivery process was good.

Waiting for the snow
I was very pleased with the whole process of purchasing and delivery of my snowblower. The delivery was right on schedule and the item was delivered in excellent condition. The assembly directions were simple and understandable. Following direction lead to a "One Pull" start. I have also had several other "One Pull" starts.
Now all I need is snow. My friends and neighbors tell me that we will not have snow this year because of this purchase! That's OK
I am very pleased with the design of this snowblower.

Awesome Snow Blower
Bought this last fall after shoveling the previous year more than this body could handle. Reputation of Ariens was a major selling point. Didn't consider this model until I found the two models below this one were sold out and I didn't want to wait. Thought this model might be a tad overkill.
Our neighborhood is always last to be plowed (if ever) and we live on a hill so getting in and out isn't always possible.
First snow storm of the season dropped 8 inches of heavy wet snow. Started up on the first 1/2 pull (it's the easiest starting machine I have in the shed by far). I have an 80' long driveway of stone. The machine runs fine on the drive way - occasionally it picks up a stone but it's not a problem like you might think - Really! Finished the driveway up and all the street in front of the house...and the neighbors drive way...and the other neighbors driveway...and the street in front of both their places. When the plow eventually plowed the driveway in I got back out and this blower cleared it without any problem.
No regrets for buying two models up. And the light is extremely handy since it gets dark early and I don't get home from work until after sunset.

Ariens Compact ST22LE
I received my new Ariens 22 compact in perfect condition. I’m not mechanically inclined but it only took me about 20 minutes to get operational. One push with the electrical start and it fired right up.
The first thing I noticed was how quiet it was compared to the other snow blowers I have used. I was also surprised with how much bigger and more powerful looking it was, considering it is the compact version. It’s a nice looking machine. I’ve used many snow blowers and this is much easier to maneuver and “feels” light, while it still has the power needed.
We haven’t had much snow since I bought it, so I don’t know how it will do with big storms but I am most impressed with its usability so far. This is perfect for folks with long driveways and sidewalks and I’m thrilled to have it for less than $850. The only downside I’ve seen so far is when you only have about an inch or two, it just kind of pushes the snow more than eating it up sometimes but that may be the case for most snow blowers. I usually just shovel when it’s that low but really wanted to play with my new toy. So far so good!

It hasn't snowed since I received the cutters but I paid more than your 29.95 price

Major upgrade just in time!
I owned a 3.5 hp Honda single stage for the last 12 years. After the last 12" snow I decided it was time for an upgrade. I clear about five driveways after every snow so it gets old after the first snow.
I checked around Kansas City and the stores were sold out so I went online and found the Compact 22 with the Subaru engine. It was delivered as promised and one hour before promised and unloaded without me being home. I assembled it with no problems and began clearing some old slush and snow from the neighbors for the fun of it. It really does throw snow at least 25' even if it's slush and if it's a decent cold snow, expect 30-40'!It really makes clearing drives fun!
I've compared it to other machines and the only ones that outperform it cost 2000-3000 bucks! My brother's both have Honda's on tracks and they throw the snow, but they are expensive and bulky. I built a receiver hitch rack to transport the Ariens and it's a snap to run it up the ramps and move to another drive.
You can also see and feel the quality of the Ariens including the powder coating and stronger materials. The Subaru starts instantly and powers through all that I've tried including plowed snow taller than the machine. After one drive I was looking at the auger and found an orange plastic sack around it. Then the homeowner came to me with what was left of his newspaper! Never even noticed it, and it was shredded!
It's obviously a great machine and it will make snow fun for years!

Great delivery service. The machine was easy to assemble. Started right up, HOWEVER, it has not snowed since I purchased this machine. I am not complaining, as I used it on the existing mounds of snow in my yard and driveway and it cut them very easily, It's now waiting, in my garage for the new snow. If we don't get any more, that's OK, but we can get snow up to and including April.
I have had Ariens brand before and they worked great. I like the Subaru engine in this machine and will see how it lasts over the test of time. This is a smaller, compact machine, but that is what I needed for my property. I will purchase some drift cutters, if they are an option on this machine.
