A: Mike - the Ariens ST24LE snow blower is shipped mostly assembled. You would need to fold up the upper handle assembly and tighten up the 4 bolts that hold the upper handle in place. You will need to assemble and attach the discharge chute to the auger housing. A: The reason the cord is not added on the snow blower is because Ariens views this as another added cost when most people already have extension cords. If you needed one, we sell the Ariens 120V cords for this, but you can also use a regular extension cord for this as well.

A: The differences are going to be minimal. The only real difference is going to be the headlight. They are actually doing a mounted headlight in the dash this year due to so many problems with the lights shown in the picture.

Excellent Machine
I bought this after my other blower couldn't handle our October blizzard. Ariens is known for being a quality brand, that is why I limited my search to this brand. I used it for the first time a few weeks ago. VERY HAPPY! It threw the snow great and blew through the 7 inches we had without a problem. Having the light was a nice bonus.

My Story and I'm Sticking to It!!!
My first ever snow blower. Had one large snow since I have owned it and it performed very well. I have a large area around my home, driveway, turning area and street plus about an eighth of a mile to the main road and I cleared it all in three hours. My Ariens Compact 24 did the job well in about 3 hours. No problems. It did start making a clicking noise before I finished and I am not sure what that might be, only hope it means nothing. I once had an old jeep with a snow plow after I bought it it snowed very little for a few years. I am hoping the snow blower will produce the same results.......

This appears to be an excellent machine. I have only had one opportunity to use it so far. That was a very wet snow and only a couple of inches deep. It still threw the snow and did an great job. Despite a back order problem (That is a good sign. It means I selected a good machine :-)), Snow Blowers Direct is a great place to do business! They were prompt, when promised. The intermediate carrier was great too. He off-loaded with my hand truck, used his lift gate (which he had without my ordering it :-) and even put it in my garage for me. I am not a complainer anyway but, how could I be with service like that? Assembly was easy -- about a half hour.

Bring on the Snow
The 920014 has to be homeowner's best friend. Based in Wisconsin, Ariens knows a lot about clearing snow. My continued research for a Briggs & Stratton engine found that B&S had purchased the Simplicity Lawn Tractor Company who had previously purchased Snapper Lawn Equipment. Snapper make a nice snow thrower, however, retails at $1,499. They are huge.
The theory is that anyone shopping for a *small* two stage snow blower does not care about where the engine is made. Many took strong offense to this standpoint, so Ariens re-introduced their 24” model with a 6.5HP Briggs 205cc with 9 ft-lbs of Torque. This time around, Ariens included a Halogen Headlamp in the *dash* for visibility as well as electric start (no battery, but a 120V plug in for extension cord). Heated handles were an option.
All hardware is Grade 8 (120,000 PSI) and Standard as opposed to Metric.
I was able to easily find belts shoes and spark plugs as well as drift cutters. I painted with Krylon Chevy Engine Orange Paint for an exact match. Spray 1st coat very lightly and wait approx one minute for tackiness then you can pretty much hose down the metal without dripping or paint running concerns.
Ariens touts itself as being the "mower of the White House lawn".
Ariens snowblowers are characterized by a double drive system, where the blower is driven by the engine's crankshaft and the drive wheels are driven by the camshaft (which is a natural 2:1 reduction in driven speed). Bought this after the last snow!!
Had a nice blizzard and blew our driveway shut. Took me 4 days to get it cleared by hand. Some places it was 18" deep. Being handicapped, I decided I was never going to scoop that much snow again!!! Took it out of the box, minor assembly, put some gas in it, adjusted fuel flow lever, throttle, pumped the primer, choked it, pulled the starter chord and it started right up. I don't even bother with the electric start.
Like anything, it may take some time to figure the most efficient ways to operate it under various conditions, and what it's limitations are, but I am very pleased with the product.
Chains would be helpful for up-slope use or if the scraper is set high for rough ground. I had to set my scraper on high because my concrete driveway is getting some tree root upheavals. With the scraper on high, it leaves just enough snow on the driveway that traction may be lost in deeper snow.

I live in Jersey and this year we got pounded with snow. After the first snow storm, I had to get a snow blower, I couldn't take the shoveling anymore.
I went online to check out the prices and came across Snow Blowers Direct, checked everything out and purchased the Ariens 24" 205cc two stage snow blower model 920014 ST24LE. I took it home from work, the next day I started to put it together in my shed. I had no problems.
You have to read all the directions, don't go ahead of yourself. When I was done the next storm hit and this machine was great. A lot of power, never got stuck, jammed, clogged up. The size of the tank was also very good, ran all morning even to help out the neighbor.
Everything is within arms reach. The only thing that you need to reach for is the top of the chute to adjust how far to throw the snow. It's a great machine to work with and a good place to buy from.

My first snowblower
The Ariens 24" 2-stage is a powerful machine! Maybe more than I needed, gets the job done, and we haven't had the big snow yet. Have no idea how to attach the light. The picture is not helpful and the instructions not clear. BUT, I can work in the daylight.
I can't say enough about our new snow blower. My husband missed the news the night the truck delivered it. He was so excited to put it together (which was very easy) We waited two days and put it to the best use ever. We had 8.5-inches of snow, WOW!!! Our snow blower did a great job and my husband and I would recommend it to anyone. My brothers have Ariens, 35 years old, the other 27 both still run great. That was the real testimony that sold my husband on the purchase of our new Ariens. No heart attacks shoveling at our house from now on.

My New Snowblower
Finally made the decision to buy a new blower. For years I used a single stage blower. It was okay for under six inches but after that it was a lot of work. In addition the augers wore out after two years and they were not cheap to replace.
This winter I waited too long to buy one in a local store so I went online and was lucky to find Snow Blowers Direct. After reading reviews on the compact 24 I ordered it on a Monday. It was delivered that Friday. The folks at SnowBlowersDirect.com were very helpful and the shipping company was also very helpful.
I started the machine the night that I received it. Easy to put together and started on the first pull. I live in the NYC area and have used the blower at least three times including the 18 inches we had last week. It started every time on the first or second pull . No need for electric start. It ate the 18 inches with ease. I have about 150 feet of sidewalk and 80 feet of walkway to the back of the house. It took longer to clean the snow off the cars than it did to use the blower on the walkways.
To sum this up I wish I had bought this machine years ago. I was lucky to find Snow Blowers Direct and definitely made the right decision on the Ariens blower. If you are looking for a blower do not look any further. Great snowblower and excellent company to buy from.

I don’t even know what to say but thank you. I had a friend of mine recommend your company. I live in the north east and after 10 years without a snow blower I finally decided to buy one. The issue was I could not find one locally and logged onto your site . After looking at my options I gave a quick call and had all of my questions answered. Bought the snow blower after speaking to a friend that just ordered a similar Ariens model on line. Already used it twice. Works great . Easy to put together. Had oil in the crankcase . The only thing I had to add was gas. Very conflicting directions on the crankcase oil . The manuals say there is no oil in the motor then on another page they say there is oil in the motor . The tags say no oil . My machine had oil in it. So the safe thing to do is check it. I also paid the extra 50.00 dollars for the tailgate service . The delivery driver was really nice and put the machine where I wanted it . I'm really glad I got the snowblower. We had 15 inches over night. I tried starting it 3 times that didn't work. But then I turned the key and it started right up. It worked very well.
It threw snow to my satisfaction. Different speeds were a big help. The reverse speed was excellent in high speed. Slow reverse was good for drifts.
A friend of mine in Norwalk just bought the same model and also bought it from Snow Blowers Direct and told me he liked it too.

I purchased the Ariens Compact ST24LE three weeks ago (010911) and last week, we had an unanticipated 14 inches of snow - perfect timing on the purchase and delivery (011411) which occurred flawlessly from SnowBlowersDirect.com.
On the night of 12/6/11, we had a coastal winter storm, that produced thunder storms and also sent us 2" of snow per hour starting at 4pm, lasting until midnight. I started the engine for the first time at 8:30pm (01/26/11) to get ahead of the cleanup and the machine worked flawlessly - HOWEVER, the next morning when I cleaned the rest of my driveway, I noticed a large oil/gas spot in the melted water on my cleared driveway.
So, I visually inspected the engine, noticed a gas/oil substance under the "123" starter box area on the orange steel shell. I also specifically checked the oil dipstick and saw no oil drained. I began to visually troubleshoot where else the leak could come from. After letting it sit without running for a few days, I believe I pinpointed it to be a gas leak, though still not sure if it is the carburetor or the line from the primer to the fuel tank. It hasn't leaked since I turned the gas valve off and cleaned the area impacted, though I am fearful that once I turn the gas valve on in order to start it up, the leak will re-appear.
I would like help to get the unit inspected to pinpoint what the issue is and possibly replaced.

This review is from a woman's perspective. I've been using for years an old Ariens my Dad purchased in the 70s. This new Ariens does the job well but is very difficult to move up inclines (small and steep). Next year I will need chains on the tires to make the job easier. I am so sore after using the machine because I am constantly pushing it and pulling it. I live on a hill with a steep driveway.
I snow throw my property and my grandmother's property next door. It starts up manually just beautifully. The gas mileage is great. It eats up all types of snow just fine. It is very easy to run - the gears shift easily. So...if I were a man or one extremely strong Russian woman....(lol) I wouldn't have any complaints. Good luck to all this challenging winter.

This unit is awesome. It arrived as scheduled and the assembly was minimal. I followed the starting directions and it started on the first flick of the start switch.
That night we got 6" of snow and I started the blower the same way the next morning and it started right up. I cleaned my walkways and driveway in less than an hour. My neighbors comment on how far this blower threw the snow - a good 30 feet.

My single stage broke January 12, 2011 - Wanted to upgrade to a 2 stage, the problem was everybody was sold out locally, Sears, Home Depot, Lowes. Found Snow Blower Direct and ordered that afternoon, It was delivered on January 17th.
Used it today January 27th after 12+ inches of snow fell at the Jersey shore. The snow blower cut through the wet heavy snow like a "hot knife through butter"!! Easy to assemble, easy to run, good price! Recommend to anyone looking for a good powerful snowblower a 205cc Briggs & Stratton engine starts with an easy pull or with the electric start!

In the Nick of time
Ordered it on Sunday and Arrived the night before the huge storm in NJ. It fired right up and this thing can really chug snow. Highly recommend it. I can do 3 6-car driveways on a tank of gas in about 90 minutes. I have so many new best friends in the neighborhood. :-)

Impressed with Ariens
I got my blower after my neighbor had shoveled my drive. So I used it to clear the snow from in front of the other side of the garage where he had shoveled it.
The blower was easy to assemble, however I haven't found how to turn the light on. Of course I haven't needed it.
It'll get a workout tomorrow as we're getting a lot of snow tonight. I bought it so that my neighbors and I can use it.
It is like the Ariens that I had owned many years ago.

Great service
I received great advice on the phone when I had questions and the ordering process went very smoothly. I was given a back-order date and an approximate time for delivery and was praying no big snow storms would come within that time frame!
7 days after my order and a week before the expected back-order date I was notified that it was on the way and it arrived 2 days after that. Everything was great....the shipper even rolled the carton into my garage for me. It took me about 20 minutes to get it assembled from it packing and I used it on a test run the same night. Thanks!

Ariens to the rescue !
My old snowblower (21 in. YardMan ) finally died after 10 years of service. A large snow was due in NJ
and I went to all the local stores and garden centers to get a new blower. They were all sold out so I ordered
my Ariens Compact 24" 2-stage snow blower from Snow Blowers Direct and within 2 days of the backorder date I received my snowblower. It was delivered and I had it unpacked and ready to use 30 minutes after arrival. We had 12 inches of snow with 3 foot drifts and the performance of the Ariens was great. The forward speeds and reverse gears made short work of this large amount of snow. Five to six hours work was shortened to two hours and the machine did all the work. GREAT LITTLE MACHINE AT A GREAT PRICE
My old single stage was finally getting to the point where it was almost harder to use than to just shovel the snow. I decided to try the Ariens two stage. What a great investment.
Fast delivery and great pricing from SnowBlowersDirect.com. Setup was a breeze. 30 minutes because I took the time to read the directions. Filled it with fuel and it started on the first pull in 20 degree weather. I hate snow but at least now I'm ready for it.

Good Machine
Received my machine two days before the snow hit. Minor assembly to get it ready to go,about 30 minutes. I have a large area to clear and it did the job just fine. Part of this area is a steep hill (driveway), with both wheels locked in, it did the job. Only one problem, the headlight doesn't work. Have to check that out. The electric start works great, plus it has a hand pull for backup. All things said, I am happy with the machine.--J.K.

Great Products
Both the snow cutters working in conjunction with the snow blower - was like poetry in motion. We got hit with one of the worst snow storms in 20 years and I had just gotten both of these products. very nice compact machine
This machine is very powerful, it took about 20 minutes to put together and the next day we had about 8 inches of snow. I had no problem cleaning it and I also helped my neighbor clean his driveway. I am very happy with it.

Great Machine
I bought it in October, after struggling too long with a single stage blower. The wet Northeast snow is too much for a small blower.
The snowblower arrived in a few days, and the lift-gate service made it really easy. The crate was left in front of my garage, making it very convenient. Installation was easy, except the directions for the light weren't clear. I took a while to figure out which post to mount it, but once that was done, it took very little time.
I have now used the Ariens twice. The first was a huge Noreaster- 18+ inches of wet snow. Started first pull! The blower ate right trhough it, even the plow drift at the end of the driveway. For the thick stuff, I found that as long as I slowed down the drive speed, no problem getting through it.
We had another snow a week later. This time 6-8 inches of lighter snow. Once agin started first pull! The Ariens made the clean up really quick. With the lighter drier snow, the drive speed could be run at 4-5. Once again, the plow drift was no problem at all.
I will need to see about reliability over time, but so far awesome experience!!!!

We had an Ariens snowblower that died after 18 years of use, so we were very pleased with our new Ariens. It was easy to order and the delivery was the best.

new snow blower delivered just in time for the blizzard!
LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!
I live in central NJ and we were hammered with 30+ inches of snow with last week's blizzard. This snow blower went right through all of it even at the bottom of the driveway where the plows came through.
It was delivered just about 10 days before the blizzard, and I was able to put it together and get it ready to use without problems. I did pay extra for the lift-gate delivery option which is well worth the money.

Can't wait for next snow
This is starting out as "one of those winters" in MN. After doing some research on snow blowers I wanted an Ariens 24".
I stopped at Home Depot and of course they were out of stock and didn't know when more were coming in. I went back to the computer and looked it up again on Snow Blowers Direct and they still showed stock on my 24".
I ordered it on Sunday night and checked Monday and it was on the truck. Ironically, the truck was slowed down by the blizzard in Illinois and it didn't make the connection in MN. I contacted R&L Shipping and was kept informed about this, which I really appreciated, so I would have a Wednesday delivery.
I still can't believe that it was delivered so fast, even a day late. Everything about ordering and shipping of my new blower was upfront and flawless. I would definitely buy again.
The Ariens ST24LE worked perfectly, set up easily and I am completely satisfied. I too have some concern about the electrical connection on the halogen light. You have to push the plug-in blindly into the socket and you don't hear or feel a distinct lock. It works fine so far on the machine. As far as a previous mention on the mounting of the light, just remove the nut and washer and put the light on the supplied fixed stud and tighten. Then plug it in.
The only regret is, I wish I would have bought it sooner!

Light Did Not Work
Light did not work right out of the box. Checked line with meter and no juice straight from engine. Had to take it to a service center to fix it. 3 weeks later got it back, in my van for delivery & pick-up from shop (that sucked). Still haven't used it yet but seems to run fine. Not wild the about the light.

We moved to our newer house 2 years ago. I have always been a shovel kind of guy, but with a 40 yard long drive -down hill- and a half Basketball court at the top i decided it was time for some help.
I chose this blower mainly because of the Name--Ariens, self propel 6 speed, and it was in stock....I had to get it quick given the forecasted 6+ inches of snow coming in... Well the snow fell all day, and less than 24 hours after ordering it was processed, shipped, and I picked the blower up at R&L terminal....
30 minutes for very intuitive set up, a few bolts here and there, a splash of gas, two pumps of the primer bulb, (no choke necessary) half a pull and it was purring.... (of course I read through the manual, to make sure I got everything- and did all the necessary break-in).
Like I said, I am a shovel guy-- getting older-- the setup is very intuitive, the power is excellent, Like the snow that was blown 30 + feet and 15 feet high, I was blown away....now I think about all the hours shoveling the white stuff....
This is the right tool for the job.
P.S. - R&L shipping was excellent. Very helpful, and the packaging was blemish free, no tears or dents and the freight handlers were super helpful, loading the 200+ pound blower with a fork truck in my trailer---In the blowing snow...

Ariens model 920014 - Great Investment
My Ariens snowblower has been a great investment. Finally got to use it and it is doing the job that I expected. We are now getting a lot of snow and I've used it three times with excellent results.
Would recommend it to anyone with a very large driveway.

Good snow blower but..... the light mounting hole was pre-drilled on the wrong side of the frame. Consequently it had to be mounted on the left side because of the format of the frame. The frame included was not for the 920014 but appears to have been for another model - 90015.

Fast delivery
I haven't had a chance to use the snowblower yet, but it looks great. I was blown away by the speed of the standard delivery, however. I placed the order on the internet on Monday afternoon, and had possession of the machine on Wednesday morning in SE Pennsylvania.
It had to have been placed on a truck within hours of my order and driven half way across the country. Factor in the cross docking to the local delivery truck, and this thing must not have stopped for more than an hour. Outstanding!
I am a little concerned about the connection to the halogen light however....it seems a little touchy. If I push it in too far, the light goes off. Not far enough, same problem. Not going to be a big deal, but I'll contact the seller if it continues.

Excellent Ariens 920014
My experience so far with the Ariens 920014 snow blower has been excellent.
The delivery was very prompt and setup out of the box was quite easy. Reaching customer service to check on my order was very pleasant and helpful.
I can't say anything yet about the ease of handling or it's snow blowing capabilities because it hasn't snowed yet. I will have to update my review after actually using the machine.

I ordered the machine with standard free delivery freight. I received e-mail updates at each stage of processing and the machine arrived within 3 or 4 days.
I did not order the power lift tailgate delivery for an additional $50 as I had planned to use a friend if necessary to unload it from the truck. I told my wife that if it arrived while I wasn't home that she might expect to pay the $50 fee to have it lifted down. Sure enough it arrived while I was still at work. The delivery driver unloaded it and placed it in the garage where my wife indicated. He told her the liftgate service was complementary and there would be no charge...very cool customer service!
I later unpacked the machine in about 10 minutes. It rolled right out of the shipping container. Set-up was a snap. In less than 30 minutes I was ready to fill the gas tank and crank it up.
I choked it, primed it twice, and on the second pull she started up and ran like a charm as she warmed up. The Briggs & Stratton engine ran like a top.
All the functions worked as advertised though I have yet to try it on snow. So far I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. It looks and sounds like a quality piece of equipment.
I also ordered the electric starting cord option because I wanted to be sure to try the electric start. The cord is a rip-off at $19.95 (Regular advertised price was $29.99). The cord is nothing more than a heavy duty 10 foot 110v/120v grounded extension chord. I had several that I used for outdoor Christmas decorations. I tried one of my 50 foot chords and she started right up with it. I'm returning the chord I ordered and I definitely recommend you procure a suitable one from your local hardware store if you don't have one that works.
All in all, a great experience to this point!
SBD RESPONDS: Since shipping is free, we look for the most cost effective shipper for your order. In many cases this will be a freight company that does not have liftgates on their trucks.
It's good that you got lucky, and delivery was by a more expensive shipper with a lift gate. But, if you need a lift gate for delivery it is still safest to order it ahead of time.
The power cord from Ariens is a bit different from the a of the mill extension cord because it will stay flexible at very low temperatures- something you wouldn't have noticed in September. It is also durable enough to last as long as your snow blower.
