Q: I have a moderate slope to paved drive and 200 feet of gravel after that. Would I be better off w tracked version? Thx by Ralph from Michigan on September 28, 2011
A: If it is a moderate slope, you would most likely be fine with wheels, but this is more like a touch and feel sort of thing. If you can get slippery conditions you can have issues with traction if the slope is too steep, but if it is gradual you would most likely be fine. by Kriss, Product Expert
Q: The Ariens Platinum ST30DLE (30") 342cc Two-Stage Snow Blower specs states that the gear case is cast iron but if you click on the product demo it states that the gear case is aluminum. Question: Which is it? by David Marteny from Virginia on August 28, 2011
A: David - the product demo's on our web site are from 2010. Ariens is building all of their 2011 2-stage models with the heavy-duty cast iron gear case. The ST30DLE has a cast iron gear case. by Kriss, Product Expert
Q: how well will this unit work on a steep gravel drieway. Ariens Platinum ST30DLE. Thank you. by Jerry Bartle from North Carolina on August 06, 2011
A: This is going to depend on how slippery it is going to get. Wheeled units are great on level ground, but when you start to get steep slopes, you will start to run into a loss of traction and the wheels will just spin. Now the answer typically to slippage is chains, but with new Ariens models, the wheels have deep tread and the chains just sit inbetween the tread and don't really work.

Kriss's Recommendation
The Ariens Deluxe Platinum Series ST30DLE is built to handle snow fall. This prosumer grade snow blower has a clearing path of 30 inches, and a largest-in-class 14-inch auger that can power through winter’s harshest conditions.
The Ariens ST30DLE has a powerful 342cc that starts right up with a convenient electric start system (and you still have a mitten-grip recoil backup if you need it). Hand warmers keeps your fingertips toasty warm in sub-zero weather.
The heavy-duty cast iron gear case delivers six forward and two reverse speeds. Dual interlock controls lock both handles, freeing one hand for chute operation. The halogen headlight lights the way during the darkest days.
The feature you will appreciate the most is the Ariens automatic traction control system. Think of it like power steering! One wheel automatically slows during a turn, making it easy to change directions. The directional snow tread tires virtually eliminate the need for tire chains.
It’s no wonder the Ariens ST30DLE prosumer grade two-stage snow blower is one of our most popular models. Powerful enough for the most serious snow, and loaded with standard features not found on comparably priced models. If you live in an area where harsh wintery conditions are the norm, the Ariens ST30DLE prosumer grade two-stage snow blower is a great choice to help clean up after mother nature delivers her worst!

Excellent machine
This is one good machine. In this day of mediocrity (or often times less), it is nice to find a well made, solid machine that actually works the way it is supposed to work. Other than a couple nuts that vibrated loose from operation (easily fixed with some blue loctite), and the possible slight exaggeration of "throws snow 50 feet" (we observed 40 feet), this is a keeper. Since I recently had rotator cuff surgery, I decided to buy a good snow blower that my wife could operate. My wife actually enjoys using this thing. She is like a kid with a new toy. This Ariens machine goes right through the 4 foot snow drifts we recently had here in New Mexico.

You need to be a rocket scientist
I'm a 63 year old woman, and the directions for assembly are so confusing, I don't know if I will have it together for the first snow. You should have a step by step video. I'm at my wits end. If and when I get it together and get to use it...I'll give a review of the performance.

Ariens Platinum 30"
An easy set-up even without reading the assembly book. It was out of the box and running in 20 minutes. And it started on the first pull too. Of course I had to try out the electric start feature and it was even faster. I really like the way the discharge chute is firmly locked in position but it still is very easy to swing left or right in a flash. This is a quality piece of machinery. Solid and firm. Nothing flimsy here. A much improved muffler makes for a comfortable and easy-on-the-ears running sound. The heated hand grips are a real treat too

Excellent product and excellent company in Snowblowers Direct
Snowblowers Direct is an excellent company to deal with, product shipped out as told and was delivered on time.
The Ariens model 921018 is a super machine, the only problem is the directions on how to assemble the chute, it is very vague. They should use photo instructions.

Platinum 30
I did about a years worth of research looking at the pros and cons of other brands such as Troy-Bilt, Toro, John Deere, Husqvarna, Craftsman, and Honda. Ariens won hands down - 1st for their known snow performance and 2nd for the features and price. Once I narrowed it down to Ariens I then debated between the Pro Series and Platinum models, I went for the Platinum 30 since it has many features of the Pro Series at a more reasonable price. It is a lot heavier than my old snow blower - a 10hp 28" MTD, but it's build with a thicker gauge steel and just built much, much better. With the 342cc engine this will handle anything winter throws at you. Hand-warmers are great, they really work and even on the coldest days your hands stay pretty warm. Snow performance - throws very, very high and far, wet snow still does pretty well, snow did stick to the chute but never clogged, end of driveway stuff did great you can throw the snow where ever you choose even clear across the street if you wanted, bonus is that you can avoid getting that huge pile of snow on the sides of your end of driveway. Automatic Traction Control makes turning very easy, my only complaint with this feature (and the machine overall) is that it can be hard to keep the machine going straight when you hit some very hard-packed snow as a result of the ATC design. Couple things I wish it came with for the price - drift cutters and poly skids. I plan on getting those accessories in the near future, maybe even the snow cab. Overall I am pleased with this machine, if your in the market for a snow blower, consider an Ariens you won't be disappointed specially when your the only one in the neighborhood throwing snow the farthest. Thanks Ariens, for a building a great machine, I'm looking forward for many years of use.

Worked great even with a two inch snow fall as well as the six inches of wet snow. The extra money for the upgrades on the controls and engine were well worth it. Snow Blowers Direct were prompt with the delivery.

Machine seems good, but disappointed in condition received
We purchased this unit because we thought Ariens meant quality. When we received the package, some bolts were loose, some undone and off in the crate floating around. The chute line does not come fully assembled but it is easy to hook up if the factory had actually set it in place properly!
We fumbled around trying to hook up the chute cable, until we realized that the factory attached the wrong end to the chute lever. We had to reassemble that, and after that it's turn it on and go right? Wrong.
We squeezed the drive lever and the auger lever and initially it started and then it braked on us hard even while we are still squeezing the drive and auger levers. We looked down and the cables to both systems were not attached; the tiny pins that hold them in place were not installed.
When advised of this, Snow Blowers Direct initial response was that it was a simple pin, giving me the impression that it was no big deal, just gerry-rig it. I work in sales and customer satisfaction is the single greatest factor when considering continued sales. Now as far as repairing the pins, the way I see it is this; if I buy a cheap unit and I have to rig it to work properly, no big deal. I saved money and it would be worth it. However, if I buy a brand new, expensive machine, I expect it to be incredibly well-built, no issues, no worries.
I shouldn't have to rig it to make it work when even the manufacturer's name for its quality level includes words like platinum.

I used the machine several times this season and worked very well with the exception of pulling to the right. I was waiting for more snow to see if I could correct the problem but no luck. I highly recommend it because it is built well and operates smoothly.

Very Pleased
From start to finish I was very pleased with my purchase. The unit performs great. Very well built, plenty of power, I feel that the 120 volt starting cord should be part of my purchase. Asking for added money is not right, Its part of the unit in my mind.

A Well Built Snow Blower
The Ariens 921018 snow blower is built solid of all steel. No composite or plastic. I have used it three times and am delighted with the ease of handling, especially when turning. The six forward speeds are handy for any depth of snow. One of the snow storms was half ice and very heavy and this snow blower handled it with ease. I was impressed how far it threw this heavy stuff from the middle of my large parking area. The snow blower was shipped a week earlier than I was promised and the delivery was right into my garage.

My "Insurance Policy"
Quick explanation:
By purchasing my new snow blower, I have assured that there will be no measurable snow in our area for the next 1 to 3 years.
My Ariens Deluxe Platinum Snow Blower arrived and was delivered by a very polite and helpful driver. It was larger than I thought it would be, but am very pleased. It assembled in about one hour. We have had no measurable snow, so I have not had the pleasure of 'testing' it yet. It started up on the first pull. (I have not had a chance/need to use the electric starter yet, but have the confidence it will work perfectly). The hand warmer works great! I am looking forward to putting it to good use ... in the (hopefully) distant future.

new snowblower 920018
All I can say is thanks. A great service. Could not find any locally in Massachusetts 3 weeks ago . And this unit was ordered and delivered in less than a week. Albiet on a 48 foot trailer. Assembly was a little hard only because it was 2 degrees outside so my garage was cold . Directions not super clear. Agree crank should be on other side but you get use to it . It took a little time to adjust it properly. This unit cut through 5 different storms so far. Wet, dry, deep and chunky with no issues. Blows snow very far. Agree that chute should go up more. The snow banks are real high and when right next to them it hits and rolls back. Only snow I have had some issues with is the 3 foot plus snow fields in yard. (need chains ) Machine just wants to ride up and wheels spin. Does love gas. Overall love new machine will get chains for next year. Its big but even wife can use it she likes heated grips. Would buy again from snowblowers direct. Now my only wish is if I could just get it on roof to get rid of the 4 foot drifts.

Pending Monster storm!
My smaller Ariens (650?) did the job for the first snow fall of close to two feet of new snow, fluffy and not wet,
but I did struggle to get the job done. My son and wife also live here in Chester and only had a shovel.
They live about a mile away. I decide to give them the smaller snow blower and order a larger unit. My dealer was sold out of snow blowers as well as all outlets in my area.
I found Snow Blowers Direct on line and decided to give them a try. My first order with them, the Ariens Deluxe Platinum ST30DLE (30") 342cc Two Stage Snow Blower was about to be given a workout!
The weather news report was warning of another large storm in the works in about a week. I was told that I would get the (in stock) snow blower before that storm. About three days later a large R&L truck pulls up to my place, and a box in perfect condition, was lowered to my dolly. The job of attaching the loose pieces on to the unit was simple and direct. I bought a cab for the snow blower from my local dealer, to keep him in the loop, and I had no trouble setting that up. I did this indoors where I have a little space in my studio for all outdoor tools.
Well, the storm finally came, over a foot deep. I had a ball doing the driveway. I was able to get done in one quarter the time that it took me before. The unit works exactly the way it was meant to work. The heated handles are wonderful, the plug in starter, headlight, changing gears, revolving snow-shoot, all worked well and so far I'm very pleased.
You wanted my story, so there it is, and yes I would not have any problem buying again from Snow Blowers direct!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow
I ordered my Ariens Deluxe Platinum two stage snow blower on November 30, 2010. I ordered it to be delivered by lift truck. It arrived a couple of days later. I had no problems assembling it. I used to look out of the window and say "Oh no, Oh no, off to push snow I go". Now I look out and say "Let it snow, let it snow for out I go to blow". Yesterday (February 2, 2011) we had around a foot of snow and needless to say, I didn't mind at all.

Let It Snow
This season, 2010-2011, we've had record snow fall and it's not over yet. I own a smaller snow blower and have gotten by with it for several years. This year I decided to upgrade.
This machine is very good. It has plenty of power, runs smooth and is quieter than my smaller machine. When going down the driveway, it easily throws the snow over and clear of the cars. I run the machine at about half throttle with no problems.
This is an excellent machine and would recommend it to anyone. (delivery was also quick, I ordered on Thursday and delivery was on the following Tuesday )

Big Machines
These are big machines, and can easily throw snow 50' or more. They lack good traction when snow is as big as the mouth of the machine. Reverse speeds are too slow, forward speeds are good.
These are commercial grade but the shoot directional cabling is flimsy for a machine this size. Overall it does a good job but beats you up because of the poor traction.

Ariens deluxe Platinum...........Outstanding
I had just been crushed by our day after Christmas blizzard in NJ and broke my much smaller Simplicity 20 inch blower. I purchased the Ariens on Wednesday and it was at my house Friday afternoon as it started to snow again. I have used it 4 times and it is awesome. Very powerful and gets through snow drifts very easily.
I cant believe I struggled all of last year. I did my neighbors driveway and mine in less than an hour and my driveway is pretty long. Hand warmers are a must have and delivery was ahead of schedule and I used the $50 lift-gate delivery and he hand delivered my Ariens into my garage.
Very professional Inside sales rep who was very patient with me answering all of my questions on all of the other brands and helped guide me in my decision. I would order again from Snow Blowers direct without a doubt!

Outstanding Machine, Outstanding Company
First, whatever you buy, purchase it from Snow Blowers Direct. The service is amazing and if you follow their recommendations to fit your needs, you will be as happy as I am. The unit arrived on time and the little bit of assembly was complete in an hour.
The machine itself is a beast and moves huge amounts of snow like it is nothing. We just had 15 to 17 inches of ice, wet snow, slush and it did an excellent job. My main reason for getting a unit of this size is to handle the 3 foot pile of snow and ice chunks after the plow goes by. This unit chopped it all up and spit it out in no time at all.
If you do purchase a heavier machine, pay the extra fee to have it delivered by a truck with a lift gate. When the invoice says the box weighs 268 lbs that means it will bend the axle of your everyday hand truck.
Back to the machine. It started right up both recoil and electric start with no problem. Because of its weight, making turns gets better with practice. The directional chute which got a few negative comments in reviews I read, worked great. You can pin point where you want the snow to go. Great in cramped housing tracts. So far this has turned out to be an excellent machine.

I never thought to buy a snow blower in Nassau County NY. Lazy as I am, I'm not a cheap person. I bought the best of the best. This snow blower throws the snow across the street with very little effort. 2 minuts after starting it for the first time, I was using it in the driveway. I walked 3 feet and sucked up an extention cord, which blew out the shear pin. This is a very strong machine. I do all my neighbors now! Would buy it again! All the cheap people stand out with their machines. This machine makes its own storm!

Excellent Investment
I purchased this snowblower in September, but put off writing this review until I had a chance to use it. Machine was shipped quickly, and delivered quickly. The driver brought it into the garage on a pallet jack. I spent about a half hour on simple assembly - attaching the chute and securing the handles. Then I waited for snow.
Last week brought about 4 inches of snow over two days - not enough to actually prevent the jeep from navigating the driveway, but enough to break out the blower for a trial run. It performed excellently, started right up and ran smoothly. Four passes along my 300 foot driveway took just about 15 minutes - much less time than it would have taken with a shovel.
It's a heavy machine but moves itself along quite easily. It has enough power to wheelie when releasing the clutch without a little upward force on the handles from the operator. It did spin wheels a little bit on the ice. I don't know if the manufacturer recommends tire chains, but I'm going to look into it - they could be beneficial. It tossed the snow in a beautiful tall arc, well clear of the driveway.
In summary, I'm well pleased with the purchase, and looking forward to the coming snowfall.

I just want to thank Snow Blowers Direct and R+L carriers for their prompt professional and curtious service. I finally broke down and decided to buy a state of the art snowblower, The other two I have been using for 11 years for my new home in Toms River N.J. are just not doing the job . My two stage is a 40 year old AMF 5 H.P. model and it just doesn't throw the snow far enough, I've done everything i can think of to tweek this one to do a good job but it just doesn't do the trick. My other one is a craftsman single stage with drive which actually throws the snow farther than the AMF. Well I ordered my monster snow eater on Monday Jan. 3rd 2011 and R+L delivered it on Friday the 7th. I couldn"t wait to get it out of the box. I reviewed the instructions Friday night ( I dont get home from work till 8:45 PM ) Got up next morning and assembled it (Did I mention it was snowing.) It went together great. Called the wife out for the first pull. Started right up. Went into the home and waited for the snow to subside, then I fired it up again and went to work, I was amazed how much easier this machine was to use, It didn't beat me up. I even LET my wife try it. The A.T.C. is great, The heated handle are really awsome. I did my driveway and my neighbors in less time than it took using my old ones. I thought I would need to purchase snow Chains but after using the machine I dont think they will be necessary. ( I have a steep Driveway ) Even though this snow storm wasn't a nor easter I can feel confident that this puppy will bail me out. again thanks Snow Blower Direct.

A must have!
This year I purchased a brand new Ariens Deluxe Platinum 30 snowblower and couldn't wait for snow to try it out. I knew here in Michigan I wouldn't have to wait long and I wasn't disappointed. First time using this snowblower I fell in love, what a great unit. Unstoppable power, great features, built like a tank and easy starting and man will it throw the snow! I have used other expensive brand name blowers from Yamaha and Honda and this beats them both. My only complaint with my new Ariens was how it would grab and pull when the steel skid shoes hit pavement. But that problem was solved when I came across the Roller Skid shoes here, watched the video and was sold! I ordered them Friday January 07th and received them the next day January 08th. Just installed them and tested them out and they work as advertised, simple to install and they work, no more grabbing and pulling. Great product, great customer service from SBD and super fast shipping! I most certainly recommend this product and Snow Blowers direct!

During the snowstorm of December 2009, in New Jersey, I told my wife that next year this time there would be a snowblower in the garage because I am NOT shoveling any more snow. I did a lot of checking as I wanted to get what I thought was the best snowblower at the best possible price. I didn't want to get a small one so I opted for the big 342 cc Airens, 30" wide snowblower.
Ordered it from Snow Blowers Direct. In fact, I ordered it early Wednesday, in August, and it arrived on Friday. Don't know how it went so fast. I can't even mail my neighbor a letter and have it get there as fast.
Well, put blower in garage, unpacked and began to hope for snow . My wife kept telling me that it will not snow in August. My associates at work also got tired of me wishing for some snow. I had shown the snowblower to my daughter's boyfriend and he stated that I wasn't kidding when I said I was going to buy a big snowblower. He even stated, "What are you expecting a blizzard?"
Well I wasn't really but... on December 26, 2010 perhaps my wish for snow was a little too much. A blizzard it was. My daughter's boyfriend was telling me that I had better go out during the storm to make the first pass so that it would be easier later. I said to him that the wind is approximately 50 mph and I can't see a thing. Perhaps he wanted to get rid of me.
However, I waited until the snow stopped which was 32 inches later. Got exhausted just going to the detached garage to get snowblower. Got the door open and fired up the Airens. I didn't plug it in and it started on the second pull. The snow was up to my waist and the snowblower and I took off into it. It did take a little time to get used to as I haven't operated a snowblower for roughly 35 years, (yes I am old).
The snowblower was eager to attack the snow and I was right behind it. Fortunately, the snow was powdery and it really flew far. It kept going through the snow and under it until my stone driveway was cleared. Only about a 60 by 20 foot driveway. However, kept going around the house, by the trash receptacles and recycling cans. All cleared.
My back didn't hurt, my arms weren't sore, my only casualty was a blister on my ankle from my firemen's boots and my thumbs were a little sore from holding the handgrips probably too tight. All in all I would recommend this particular snowblower to anyone who is serious about snow removal in extreme snowfalls. It worked fantastic.
Well, changed the oil and just received word that we will possibly be getting another winter storm this upcoming weekend. So... Let it snow...Let it snow.. let it snow.

purchased in the fall and have been waiting use. I got the opportunity on December 26, 2010.
20 inches of snow with drifts of 36 inches. No problem, looking forward to using it again. Would have given 5 stars but haven't used it long enough, maybe after a few more storms.

New Snow Blower (Columbus, OH)
Only been able to use it 1 time so far this year but it is built like a tank.
Can't wait for the first big snow of the year. Unit arrived earlier than indicated and delivery man backed his truck with the lift gate right into my garage and set the snow blower on the floor without me ever touching a thing. Money well spent!
You can't go wrong with purchasing your snow blower from Snow Blowers Direct!

Could use a lower gear
The snow blower is okay but would not buy this product again.
Here in Wisconsin we have some heavy snow and light. The snow plows like to leave the big chunks at the end of the driveway and for this reason I wish the thing had 1 gear lower to put in because of that.
Another problem that I have encountered is that the welds on the thing are starting to rust, they should of cleaned their welds before painting. I guess its all about productivity and not quality.

Ariens Model 921018
I ordered my Ariens snow blower 921018 in October and received it 4 days later. I paid extra for lift-gate service and the truck driver put it right into my garage.
The snow blower was in perfect condition when I opened the box and I was pleased with the whole experience with Snow Blowers Direct.
There was some assembly required, and even reading the directions it took some time to understand them and put it together. In the directions it said to add oil to the snowblower, but it was already filled, if you didn't know that you would over fill it.
I am still waiting for the first snow fall so I can use it. I would definitely recommend ordering from Snow Blowers Direct.

Way over hyped snowblower. Actual use is underwhelming.
I ordered the unit in November 8th 2010 but it was on backorder for a couple weeks. It arrived in excellent shape. Assembled in about an hour after going through all directions.
I had and still have a problem with the vertical nose chute. I think the design is defective. Adjusted the spring and tensions properly, but up/down will barely move unless I manually move it. Totally sucks with wind blowing and you have no control over ice cold spray in your face (brain freeze).
It just snowed 15+ inches here in Minneapolis, MN. I found the horsepower LACKING when going through heavy drifts, but not exceeding the height of the 21" intake. It bogged down in 2nd and 3rd gear. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
Also, when making another line back to blow snow, the intake could not keep up with the snow in 1st Gear. Snow actually moved out to the side of the freshly cleaned area. I left approximately 4-6 inches extra staggered space to allow the augers to keep up. I checked the intake and nothing was clogging it. All dry snow.
Also, about a month ago we had a very wet 8 inch snowfall. It bogged down as well, barely able to throw 2-3 feet away. I have no idea how people can give this a five star with actual use. Any other snowblower could offer the same or better performance. I am disappointed I spent so much.
If you are stuck on buying an Ariens, you are better off trying the smaller cc Subaru engine for a significant less cost. I wish I did. The Briggs & Stratton 342cc Polar Force engine is under-powered for its size. I never noticed any heat from the "heated grips". Halogen light is okay, but the engine is raised so high it blocks half the light emanating left. Cleared a path to the barn with an up incline, but tires slipped. Recommend chains if you are on any serious incline.
If I had a digital camcorder, I would YouTube the problems. Good luck and God Bless You All this Christmas.

MUST BUY!!! THE MOTHER OF SNOWBLOWERS
This is an AWESOME snowblower!!! Living on the IL & WI border we get some of the most wet and heavy snow that most snowblowers can handle.
I originally bought a small 5.5hp snowblower from a bigbox store and it could not push the heavy wet snow that I see every year. This Ariens throws snow EFFORTLESSLY and Snow Blowers Direct shipped to my home super fast.
I only wish i would have found and ordered from Snow Blowers Direct so many years sooner. Now I can't wait for snow. Thank you Snow Blowers Direct for your great service and prices!!!

Check it OUT!
The snow blower was shipped and received just as promised. I unpacked the machine, checked the literature for precautions, etc., and performed the simple assembly.
I noted that the crankcase oil level seemed to be excessively high and was unsure if it was an accurate indication of the actual oil level. I filled the gas tank with the recommended octane gas, followed the recommended starting procedure.
The machine started immediately on the first pull of the starter rope. However, after running only about 15 seconds the engine began to spew oil out. I shut down the engine and drained the crankcase to the proper oil level. Then restarted the machine, running it for about 3-5 minutes, everything seemed to be fine. Now just waiting for the first snow fall to really check it out.
There were several precautions in the literature to ensure that oil was in the crankcase before starting. I never expected the crankcase to be overfilled with oil upon receipt of the new snow blower.

I received one day service; I called at 11:00 am Monday morning and I received my snow blower by 10:00 am the next morning. The shipping container was untouched and the product was in perfect shape.
It was easy to put together, one hour at the most. The only problem was the head light bulb had a loose connection. I called customer service and received a new light bulb the next day.
Very satisfied. I'm ordering another machine for my business.

Couldn't pass up the price
It's only September here in the great state of Minnesota, so I haven't tried the blower out yet- but I couldn't pass on this great price.
I also liked that Snow Blowers Direct lets you pay with a check and passes on the savings to you.
The blower arrived on time and in great shape. Blower seems to be built like a brick house.

Fantastic!
This is an update of my January 27 review. Since then we have had every imaginable type of snow--light powder to slush.
I have 5 ways of dealing with snow: shovel (ugh), snowblower, Yamaha 700 ATV with plow, '72 International truck with 8' plow, and a large skid-steer.
Every winter I use them all (well, this was the first year for a snowblower). I was not surprised to find that the blower replaced all 6 different shovels in almost every circumstance, but I was surprised that for wet snows it beats out the ATV because it throws the snow and gets rid of it much more quickly.
Neither the blower nor the ATV can deal with slush very well. But this is one fantastic snowblower. I have had zero problems with it.
I love the electric start.

It didn't work!
WAIT! Now that I have your attention and before you get the wrong idea - I thought when I finally broke down after 3 storms this winter and ordered my Ariens 92018 at the end of the season, that there would be no more storms at least for this year.
Well I was wrong: "it didn't work" out that way. Two days after the very prompt delivery and after a very easy session to install the handle bars and a couple cables, we had a major end of season storm here in the Northeast.
It dumped a foot or more of heavy, wet snow on us. Well, for this one I was ready with my Ariens. Two hours later, I had cleared 300' of drive plus the drift at the end of the drive our not-so-nice snow plow driver left for us.
The Ariens cut right through it all with plenty of reserve power. And the hand warmers on the handles? You have to be kidding! They are wonderful!
The Ariens was very easy to maneuver (no wrestling here) with its several forward and 2 reverse speeds.
My friends all guessed I paid several hundred dollars more than what SB Direct charged so I felt I got a really good deal from that point of view.
My advice would be to not buy a toy - this snow blower will pay for itself in a year or so AND I don't have to put up with the plows coming in and tearing up my property.
Happy? I'm ecstatic (even though it didn't keep the storm away).

This snow blower was purchased for my dad. Dad has lived in snow country for most of his life, and has owned many walk-behind snow blowers: John Deere, Snapper, Toro, and Craftsman just to name a few.
Dad has been pleased so far by the Ariens performance. He claims that the distance it throws the snow is right up there with the best of them.
I did however, encounter a problem putting the snow blower together upon arrival. The blower went together easily, except the spring assembly for the chute gear was put in incorrectly from the factory, I assume?
To clarify- there is a gear that is spring loaded that engages, and disengages, allowing you to use the control arm to turn the chute. The spring had no tension on it, so the chute would not lock into position. It took an extra couple hours to figure out how that spring assembly actually went in there so that it would have tension on it.
Overall I think Dad is pleased with the snow blower, even though he doesn't think that the newer blowers are built as well as the older ones-------I guess time will tell?
SBD RESPONDS: Ariens has an excellent tech support staff; please feel free to call them directly at (800) 472-8359.

In December 09 we got about 8 inches of snow overnight. I fired up the old snowblower I owned and started doing my thing. It was a 7 horse, 24" two-stage a bit over 10 years old. I picked up an extension cord with it. The cord wrapped around the auger and stopped the motor.
Not thinking anything of it I yanked out the cord and restarted it. It would move but not blow any snow. "Shear pins" I thought, but they were fine. Just then I noticed that the differential had blown up....again. I had just repaired this thing the previous year. I was just a tad angry.
So I went into the house and searched "snowblowers". How can you go wrong with a name like SnowBlowersDirect.com? (No guessing what they sell...) So I clicked on it. I did some looking and comparing the different brands on their site.
The day before at work a coworker and I were talking about the impending storm and he was telling me how much he liked his Ariens, so that's what I bought.
I ordered it on a Wednesday. I paid for the lift gate and express delivery because I still had 8 inches of snow on my driveway and it wasn't going to just go away; and shoveling a 130 yard driveway(yes that's 130 yards= 390 feet) is out of the question.
It arrived two days later, on Friday. I unboxed it, read the instructions and put it together. No big deal, really.
This is a big snowblower- it cannot be stopped. With 6 forward gears it walked through 18-24" drifts in 2nd gear. I was putting snow on my neighbors roof with this thing.
I love the chute controls, no more walking around the front or cranking the handle a couple hundred times. You aim it where you want it, it locks, and that's where the snow goes. Easy to start, easy to use, it's a great machine.
What used to take me 2+ hours now takes 45 minutes. And with the Ariens canopy I got for Christmas I'm blowing snow in my jacket and jeans, no more snow blowing back in my face. I'm completely protected from the wind, too.

Well, Snow Blowers Direct has excellent customer service. I did research before my purchase and they were very helpful.
I ordered my snow blower on a Thursday and received it the following Tuesday which I was very pleased with. I ordered the lift gate service and the truck driver, with a pallet jack, placed the unit right into my garage.
Assembly of the unit went well. I started it and let it run at a few different idle speeds to break it in before using it. I was very disappointed to find out that the hand grip warmers do not work. Even worse, my nearest warranty service center is over an hour away which means I need to find someone with a pickup truck and pay their time and gas to transport the unit down, and when finished, back. I did not research the warranty possibility which I should have.
I had the snow blower six weeks before I needed to use it. It was a 15" snowfall and my Ariens handled it without a problem, except my hands were cold! Other than the hand grip warmers not working, I am very pleased with the unit and Snow Blowers Direct.
SBD RESPONDS: Before hauling the unit to the service center, you may want to give the folks at Ariens Tech Support a call at (800) 472-8359. If it's just a simple connection that has jiggled loose they may be able to talk you through it and save you some time and effort.

Works great, keeps snow away
Works great! Since I bought it all the storms have gone south. It handled some old drifts well. It's easy handling... must get used to stopping forward direction before the auger stops. I am a waiting on a good test.
I would like to thank you for the prompt delivery of the Ariens snowblower. When I called for assistance prior to ordering, the person answering was very helpful.
It arrived on time, in perfect shape. The delivery forwarding company Cape Cod Express was courteous and helpful.
It is nice to deal with a company that professional, responsive and timely.
P.S. I noticed when I shut it off, both the first time and the second, there was a back fire; especially when shut off from almost full throttle. The choke was not on and it ran perfectly. Is it running rich??
Ariens promptly responded to me, suggesting I just throttle down slowly, let it idle, and then shut off. That seems to work.

Easy Purchase
I haven't had a chance to use the snowblower yet - no snow. However, the purchasing process was very easy.
Ordering was by phone - the staff processed the order very efficiently. The ability to view different models, compare their features, and read reviews was very helpful in making a selection.
Viewing other manufacturers also helped in assessing features and costs. The cost was lower than local dealers and it included free delivery.
The model I wanted (30" Platinum Deluxe) was available while most dealers in my area had limited model availability of very few models.
The snowblower was delivered before it was scheduled to arrive. It was a very good ordering experience.

Couldn't be happier
I ordered an Ariens 30 Deluxe blower from Snowblowers Direct recently. I was nervous purchasing this on-line but did my homework and decided to do it.
This was right before Christmas. I didn't expect to see the unit until after the Holidays even though we were getting pounded with snow in MA. The shipping company called me right before X-Mas and asked if they could deliver sooner to ensure I had it before the first of the year.
The unit arrived ahead of schedule, and no damage was noted during shipping etc. The driver even brought it down my snow-covered 300' driveway.
My 3-year year old son and I unpacked the unit and put it together in a couple of hours. No issues. All parts were there, and the directions easy to follow. The boy caused more delays then the actual assembly.
I checked the fluids, gassed her up and she started on the first crank. I shut the unit down and used the pull start, it started on the first pull as well.
In short, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. SnowBlowers Direct had the best price hands-down compared to my local guys, plus free shipping and no tax.
The unit arrived ahead of schedule and was a snap to get going. By the way, it's a beast but very easy to control.
Thanks to all- I would definitely recommend my experience to others.

A great way to buy a snowblower!!
Unfortunately we haven't had enough snow to put it to the test!! However, the folks at Snowblowers Direct were extremely helpful in picking the best machine for my situation.
There were no glitches in the order or in delivery--it was received, uncrated, assembled, and test driven in a matter of less than a week.
This beats the heck out of going from dealer to dealer trying to find what you want, then finding a way to haul it home and unload it.
I live too far out for free dealer delivery, and I was still on crutches from knee surgery, so having only to make a phone call then sit back and wait a few days was a great way to go.

Minnesota Insurance Policy
We are new transplants to Northern Minnesota, and after experiencing the snowfall last year my wife insisted on a relatively large Ariens snowblower.
The locals said that a new snowblower was the best guarantee that we would have little or no snow. Insurance? So far, so good.
The machine arrived well packaged and in great condition. It was easy to assemble the few parts that were not installed at the factory and it started right up.
I added a cab and snow chains to be ready for anything. We did have 6" of heavy snow and it handled it with ease. The controls are easy to operate and it moves around smoothly.
Among the reasons that we choose this model (ST30DLE) were the auto traction control and the 342 cc Briggs and Stratton 4-stroke.
We expect that this snow blower will provide years of dependable service.

Satisfied Owner
When you live in upstate New York, you have two types of snow. The first is a steady snow fall on and off for about five months starting around Christmas time.
The second type of snow is the crusty residue that the plow leaves in the bottom half of the driveway. My old snow blower handled the first type pretty well but had a rough time after the plow went by. It would bog out and almost stop when it reached that spot.
My new Ariens Platinum is a joy to operate. Its power is enough to handle anything around here, even what the giant winged plow leaves in the driveway.
The Ariens is built like a tank and easy to service as well. I can actually throw the snow over my house to the back yard.
At this point, I am quite pleased with the investment in the Ariens Platinum snow blower. With the regular maintenance, I should be an Ariens owner for a long time.

Good blower with a few issues
This blower arrived in 5 days and was delivered to my door by a very helpful driver. I assembled the unit and was ready for action, but the winter had gone so I was unable to test the unit out.
Then came January and five foot of heavy snow. This was too much of a good thing, but I gave it a go. I was able to tear into the virtual wall pretty well, but with some extra muscle.
This blower really can throw the snow a long ways. I have been pretty happy except for two problems. First, the auger broke at a weld that seemed like it did not get good penetration on one side.
The broken blade chewed up my new blower housing a bit. Oh well I didn't buy it to look at. I took it to the local dealer and they welded the auger back together and it works fine.
The second issue just started today and is when I put it into gear, forward or reverse it takes about four seconds for the drive to engage. I will find out about this tomorrow. I hope this is no big deal.
Overall this blower seems like a good machine. But I will have to see how it holds up.

My experience with this Company was outstanding. I not only saved a lot of money, but it came much sooner than expected, in pristine condition, without a scratch on the carton.
Without any doubt whatsoever I would definitely deal with Snow Blowers Direct.com again.

Awsome deal and customer service
This machine is awesome, it's well built and runs great.
The hand warmers are a plus- I can't wait for more snow.
I'll definitely buy from Snow Blowers Direct.com again.

Ariens 30 inch platinum snowblower
My old machine is a Snowking 33 inch, 12 horse snowblower.
Once you drive over the snow the Ariens will not navigate the driveway well at all. It spends most of its time digging into the tire tracks, creating severe dig jump, dig jump operation.
The old machine would just peel the tire track snow buildup right off the blacktop.
I raised the shoes but then the machine leaves too much snow on the driveway.
Ariens' good points are: ease of turning, handle warmers, ease of startup, and snow throwing ability.
Ariens' bad points: chute design, both turning and chute angle. Controls are not continuous but advance in increments. Terrible!! And, the back up speed is way too slow
I'm sorry for the negative response, but I am truly disappointed.
Thank you for listening.
