Q: How much of an assembly is there to the ST28LET Ariens snow blower ?? Scott by Scott Latorra from Colorado on February 07, 2012
A: Assembly is going to consist of pulling the handle bars to their upright position and putting on the chute and chute rod. This is not a difficult setup what so ever. by Kriss, Product Expert
Q: what are the pros and cons of a 2 stage snow blower with tires or one with tracks thank your wayne by Wayne Ledoux from Rhode Island on June 12, 2011
A: The pros of a track unit would be endless. A track unit is never going to need chains and always has traction, so if you have any hills to go up and down, this works terrific. These are also nice for the mounds left behind with plows on the road. What a normal wheeled unit is going to do is want to climb the hill, so you need to hold onto it and force into the mound of snow, where a track unit will just dive right into the mound.
The downside to a track unit is going to be the turning. These are heavy units and can be more difficult to turn. Where as wheels can be very easy and get easier if you add traction drive to the mix.
Each style has its pros and cons, but really the biggest to consider is the turning and maneuvering.
The Ariens ST28LET Deluxe track snow thrower is designed for users that have steep driveways or rough terrain that needs to be cleared of heavy snow fall. You will appreciate the track feature for the traction it offers on steep drives.
The Ariens ST28LET is best on long, straight stretches. If you don't have many turns to make, this snow thrower hums along nicely. On the other hand, if you have a shorter driveway that requires many turns, you may find this model to be a bit cumbersome; it just doesn't turn as easily as a snow blower with wheels.
The Ariens ST28LET offers a convenient electric start on its robust 250cc Ariens Polar Force engine (made by Briggs and Stratton). That’s more than enough power to throw a ton of snow per minute, and clear it up to 50 feet from your driveway or sidewalk. Snow up to 18 inches deep should be no match for this machine.
The Ariens ST28LET Deluxe track snow thrower will give winter a run for its money. With traction to burn…this bully rules when the snow starts to fly.

There IS snow in Hell!
After researching snowblowers to reach the challenge at hand, I decided on the Ariens 28" Deluxe Track. After picking up the machine at the shipping company docks, assembly came quick and would be easy for even those with limited mechanical skills. Equally as pleasing was the fact that the snowblower started on the first pull!
Starting with the level part of the driveway the Deluxe Track threw the 8" of heavy wet snow easily 30 to 40 feet, and this also allowed me time to get familiar with the machine and its handling. Now the challenge, a 28% grade driveway in Breckenridge, Colorado. I put the machine in 2nd gear, engaged the impeller, throttled up and let the snowblower prove its real worth. I was absolutely amazed as this machine climbed the slope, ate the snow and just kept on going! Not once did the engine sputter or even sound as if it were stressed. Once at the top, I turned the machine around and began the decent. Again, the machine handled above all expectations! I couldn't be happier with this purchase!! Thanks Ariens for the quality workmanship, I will be purchasing from Ariens again!

Reliable and American Made
This is the start of my third season in Maine, where we get lots of snow. I upgraded to the larger 28 inch machine with the hand warmers for heavy snow storms. It starts first pull every time and performs well. I like the fact it has several speeds for forward and two for reverse. The rotation thrower is easy to move and slide from left to right quickly. Lots of power. I would highly recommend this machine!

Does what it should
I've used my new ST28LET in about 15 snowfalls now, and am generally happy with the performance. The engine works great, and starts as a new engine should - first pull every time so far.
I've found the power to be more than adequate to cut through heavy snow, and I've not had to run at full throttle - keeping the noise quite low. The machine doesn't bog down, even when chewing some 18" high drifts.
Controls all work well. I find the reverse gears, even the 2nd reverse, to be much too slow. Granted, things run faster at full throttle, but I find myself wishing for a faster reverse gear.
The tracks work fantastic when the differential lock is engaged. No slippage and loads of traction. The trade off - the machine is a BEAR to steer with the lock engaged. Be prepared to engage your upper body muscles. I've tried running without the lock engaged, and steering is immeasurably improved. The trade off there is that on slightly uneven ground (such as the curved edge of a sidewalk on the street side), the unit's weight will shift from one track to the other, and the unloaded track will spin freely. I found myself continuously working to apply downward pressure to engage the tracks again.
I have noticed a bit of a rattling noise when the thrower is tilted back off the ground, such as transporting to a new angle to attack a snowbank. It's mostly the auger housing being a bit loose on the 2nd stage outlet, and it rattles a bit when there's no snow load. I may put some sort of bungee or spring there to tension it up.
Very small complaints overall. I suppose my suggestion would be to have a trigger mounted differential lock - and given the mechanical ease of operation, I may try add one myself. I've also had to replace one of the finger-tightenable plastic wingnuts on the side of the blower, as it shattered in my hand trying to loosen it. I found a better replacement at the local hardware store that should be more durable.
The unit came mostly assembled, and completion of the assembly was not very time consuming. I was glad to get it operating with little effort.
The machine itself appears to be VERY robust. Heavy gauge metal is used throughout (giving the unit a fair bit of weight), but I love that! That last thing I want is to have a wimpy machine that dents just by looking at it. This unit is built to last. Other than the plastic wingnuts, everything is up to commercial grade.
So with my minor gripes aside, I'm very pleased with the unit. Even with the heavy, wet snow, I have yet to break a shear pin.

My snowblower experience
I am very happy with both the snow blower and the Web site I found it on. The process of selecting the machine was made simple on this website. I already had a Toro single stage snow blower which did the job but with a lot of effort on my part.
Since my driveway has a steep grade, I selected a machine with tracks instead of wheels for more traction. I was not familiar with Ariens and I was pleased to find it is made in Wisconsin and is of the highest quality.
This winter is especially bad and I made my decision after a 30 inch snowfall. I had looked at snowblowers at Sears and found they were made in China. They were cheaper in price and I do not know if they were well made. With so few things made in the U.S., I'm glad I picked one that is. I couldn't be happier.

It was the last one left...
big storm I had to buy my first snow blower.. but am I ever glad I got this bully like it is called by people that have them... ease of operation ..traction..to boot.. build with heavy guage metal ... not overly noisy... The only thing I would say is that the reverse high speed...is very slow...it might be a safety feature.. but I am overall very happy.

FANTASTIC SERVICE
Had a Honda track drive for many years and it worked admirably. However MN winters have returned to their norm and having to make so many passes through the deep snow with the Honda's narrow intake became a real pain.
Shopped locally for best prices and availability with little success, then found this site. Spoke with Blythe, placed the order on Wednesday and on Friday the unit was delivered. Unbelievably fast service was a pleasant surprise.
The Ariens is built like a tank and it took a little while to get used to, but have had plenty of snow this year so no shortage of practice time. The unit is a bit clumsy in the turns, but if you have a steep drive way its ability to climb while a wheeled unit would slip and slide, is worth the extra effort.

Happy Customer!
The Ariens is my first snow blower I have ever owned. I shopped and compared with the competitor's models and found the Ariens to be a great value.
I was concerned about the rumors that you hear about the Briggs & Stratton engines not starting easy, or needing high altitude jets. I am using it at an elevation of 8500 feet. It started right up the first time I used it.
It has great traction and is very efficient. It makes my snow removal task a lot easier. I was considering buying a model that was 2x the price I paid and I am really glad I bought the Ariens instead.

28" ProTrack
It was just delivered and I spent about 30 min assembling - once together it's great. The directions and diagrams were a bit tedious but after minor trial and error it's all working perfectly.
I can't wait for the first snow!
SBD: I'm thrilled with your advice and guidance - please ask me for a review after the winter and I'll let you know how things are then.
