Q: Is this a battery start or electric cord? Is there a recoil backup?
Ariens model #921029

by Bill Williams from New Jersey on September 13, 2014

A: Bill - the Ariens 921029 has a 110v electric start, so it uses a cord, not a battery. There is also a recoil start back up as well.

Q: Can I use this snow blower on a rock driveway?
by John Smith from Idaho on September 25, 2013

A: Yes, all two stage snow blowers are safe for use on non-paved surfaces. When removing snow, a small layer of snow will remain on the surface rather than scraping right down to the driveway surface like a single stage snow blower does.

Q: I have been looking at ST30 DLE 414cc and ST# DLE 342cc. Which one is better? Looks like prices are the same $1,599.99.

Thanks

by Toshimi Shimizu from Minnesota on August 28, 2013

A: Toshimi,

The real difference is in the engine manufacturer and size. Briggs and Stratton has a much longer proven track record. LCT has not been around as long but I am not aware of any problems with their engines either. There is a minor difference in tire size as well.

921029 414cc - Ariens engine made by LCT, engine size 414cc, tires 16x5

921018 342cc - Briggs and Stratton engine size 342cc, tires 15x5
by Joe, Product Expert
Q: what is the horsepower
by Gerald Butler from Connecticut on August 27, 2013

A: When it comes to smaller engines, manufacturers rarely if ever list HP any longer for legal reasons. With there not being a conversion which is accurate to convert cc's to HP, it is tough to gauge exactly what the HP is, but if you were to rate this unit roughly, it would be 11-13HP depending on the torque setting.

Excellent Snowthrower - But A Little Complicated
I bought this snow thrower and I love it.

It's a Beast of a Machine and a pleasure to use. Hand warmers aren't that useful through your gloves, and with all of the controls, its a two handed operation that reminds me of driving a stick shift.

Throws the snow in a beautiful Arc. Fun to use and a big help in a storm!
Pros: Features, High Quality, Exceeded Expectations, I'd Buy It Again
Cons: Difficult To Use

Not Worth The Cost And Trouble
I used the snow blower for five minutes and it would not shift into other gears. I attempted to adjust the shifter per the manual and parts broke on the inside of it. It will not even role any longer. I now have to send it to a dealer to get it fixed. They said this will take 6 weeks to fix. So much for having a snow blower for the snow season.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Bad Instructions, Packaging, Durability, Broke After Using It For Five Min

46 Years Of Blowing Snow
Two things can make a walk behind difficult to use. They are spinning tires and the front end climbing up in heavy or packed snow. This blower has those solved in the design. The weight on this machine is favoring the heavy front end design because of its wheels are located more to the rear, compared to other machines. In the show room this makes the machine feel less nimble and heavy and might scare away some sales. Out in the snow plow berm at the end of the driveway, this machine's front end... more

Great Snow Blower!
I purchased this snow blower in October. It has been used in the past three 2014 Northeast snowstorms. It is powerful enough to handle the worst snow we have had here in New York. Obviously, YOU have to realize this snow blower, like any machine, does have it's limitations. You should know how to work the snow blower within these limits. On that topic this Ariens ST30DLE is more powerful than any snow blower I have used. I am completely satisfied with my purchase thru Snow Blowers Direct. I... more

Kicks Posterior
This bad boy will move snow. I've been using the same old blower for 34 years and thought it did a good job ..... until I used my new Ariens. This moved heavy snow so far that the only people that can still it, are my neighbors when it landed in their yards. Great for me, not so good for the neighbors.

Assembly is a nightmare. I didn't think there would be so much to assemble. Instructions are out of order and confusing. The chute direction control mount is difficult and Ariens... more

Ariens Platinum 30
Ariens Snow Blower:
I nearly didn't buy this product because of negative reviews, the comments about the assembly instructions, the auto turn feature and poor factory support, Which is Very Important.

As a result, I became interested in another unit, a three stage unit, which delayed my purchase. After a trip to my local Mega hardware store, and looking at an Ariens' unit, I decided to give one a try.

I have friends who've made purchases from Snow Blower Direct (SBD), they were... more

Auto Turn Is A Misnomer
I wanted tank-like steering like I had on my 7 year old Sears Craftsman. I figured if Ariens had something called Auto Turn, it ought to be better. Not true. It was worse. Sure, if you muscle it enough to one side or the other, the inside wheel lets go while the other drives a little but nothing as good as my old "triggers." Basically, after snow-blowing for a while, I was worn out with this machine.

The headlight is placed stupidly. As you lean into it in normal operations,... more

Powerful Performer That Really Lived Up To Expectations
The good: It does throw snow an incredible distance. I previously had a 6 HP Snapper that lasted 20 years and it never let me down. This machine, is in a whole different class of snow blower with the larger engine, impeller, auger, and tires. I clear my driveway and a path to an oil tank and a shed in half the time of the Snapper. Besides the time savings, it is the ease with which the machines just clears a path effortlessly. It throws snow so far, many times I had to deflect the snow... more

"The snow blower was delivered in the time frame specified on the website. The delivery company called to set up a delivery time, called before they arrived, and the driver lowered it to street level and wheeled it in to my garage with a hand truck. No visible signs of damage to the box and the snow blower was in perfect conditions with all the parts listed in the owners manual. I also purchased a generator from Generators Direct three years and had the same experience. I would order from either service again."

Not A Bad Snow Blower
I like the quality of the unit. Its all metal which is a big deal to me seeing how the U.P. winters can be long. It blows snow like no tomorrow and is easy on arms when using. My biggest issue is the poor quality of instructions and the pictures really don't help you at all when setting up. The other problem I had was it took 3 weeks from the time of the order to recieve the unit. It was not the fault of the dealer but the transportation company. They were not very helpful in scheduling... more

Great Blower!!
Great blower. The engine starts great, but bogged down one time while blowing. Don't know if it sucked snow in but better now. The new chute control is a slick idea, I'd rather have the old quick turn they had a couple years ago. The chute does not move that well when you are blowing it wants to go to the middle. I still liked the Briggs engine better, the throttle control is cheap and it goes from idle to wide open, not much control but better than not having one. Over all it's a great... more
