Q: whats the hp
by Jack from New Jersey on April 10, 2016

A: Jack - there is no true conversion from HP to cc's, but a 254cc engine would be roughly equal to about 8HP
by Marissa, Product Expert
Q: Ariens Deluxe ST28LE: Can you help me decide between the 2013 and 2014 model? There is a slight price difference but I do see any major design differences. The 2014 is 4cc larger but I don't see any torque specs to compare. Were there any design flaws noted in the 2013 model that are resolved in the 2014 model? Thank you!
by Mark Gossman from Minnesota on July 31, 2013

A: Mark,

The 2013 model uses a Briggs and Stratton engine and has wheel lock turning. That allows you to set one wheel in freewheel mode allowing easier turns. That free wheel does not receive power so you have a one wheel drive blower until you manually reengage the wheel.

The 2014 model no longer uses the Briggs and Stratton engine. Instead it uses an Ariens engine made by LCT. Rather than the wheel lock it has auto-turn steering which senses turns and automatically slows down the inside wheel. This allows for tight and easy turns.

No design flaws in 2013. Just an engine and steering change for 2014.

Still A Beast
I bought my Ariens back in 1013 (my first review is posted below) from Snowblowersdirect.com

This is the third year I have it - over the past weekend we got a bit over 21" on Long Island.

Using the electric start the Ariens fired up within seconds and it did it's usual job of clearing my 2 car 40' driveway in record time!

One thing I do recommend buying is rubber wheels to replace the steel skids - they make it extremely easy to turn it and they don't harm your driveway.

Piece Of Crap
I bought deluxe 30 last year first time I took it out Feb.,8 it started I let it warm up it blew snow for 7 feet clattered a little and stop running. Took it to service center 5 month's and Ariens make excuses why they haven't got to it. I took to a different service center, 30 days later I get a call it is done. I go to pick it up, pull start doesn't work they fixed electric start but it still doesn't start. I should put it in some parades, biggest lemon.

Douglas,
I am sorry to hear this unit has caused so many issues during usage. I have forwarded this information to Ariens directly as it does not appear this unit was purchased through us directly. I would recommend contacting Ariens directly at 920-756-4688 regarding the issues your model has had, as well as, the inability for the service center to correct the issue as they will be able to offer further assistance. Once again I apologize for the dissatisfaction with this model but appreciate your honest review.

The Kill Switch Killed The Blower?
We bought a brand new Ariens blower in November and have used it successfully the first two small (maybe 5 inches each) storms of the season (meaning early January). Then the third storm of this season my husband made one pass (after doing all of the recommendations the company suggests within the manual- he is a small engine knowledgeable) stopped the engine with the kill switch to talk to me for a moment and the engine made a funny clunk sound.

He proceeded to turn it back on with the pull... more

Won't Go Straight
I've had a few snow blowers over the years and never had this problem before. The machine will not follow a straight course .A single pass on the sidewalk looks like it was done by a drunken sailor.

I wind up constantly having to attempt to straighten it out by putting my weight on the handles as a counter balance. After an hour or so, my back is killing me. Not what I expected from such a storied product.

Working Well: Second Season
I used this site, among others to great advantage before purchasing a snow blower. I finally decided on the Ariens Deluxe 28" two-stage blower. I felt obligated to come back and share my experience. I'm half way through my second winter using this machine no point posting a review until I've truly tested the machine.

I couldn't be more pleased with this blower. It never fails to start on the first pull. It makes easy work of my 1200 sf driveway, so much so that I typically plow... more

Worth Every Dollar!
My Ariens 921030 has been waiting patiently for our first significant snowfall. We received 3" two days ago, then another of 6" last night. Both snows were wet, and heavy to move by hand. Fueled the thrower, primed the carb, and started it for the first time, manually, on the third pull. Now starts on the first pull. The "auto-turn" feature works as advertised - you can operate forward/backward speed partially engage the lever which keeps the impellers moving then, use the... more

Solid Build Quality But Underpowered
I recently purchased this snow blower and I am very happy with the build quality. The dash is steel along with the discharge chute. The controls are well designed and the headlight is unobstructed, bright and nicely integrated in the dash. The Carlisle X-Trac tires have substantial tread blocks and bite into the snow pretty well, however the 15 inch wheels are a little small for a machine of this size. The Ariens AX 254cc engine made by LCT is surprisingly well designed and built and also has... more

Ariens Quality
This is my first gas blower - after the Blizzard of 2/13 I decided my faithful Toro electric would not able to handle another 28" snowfall.
After researching all the brands I bought the Ariens - this machine is extremely well built - and with the 254 cc engine I don't foresee any difficulties with a large snowfall.

The engine started right up first try - some say it is noisy but I find it no louder than a gas lawnmower. The turn sensing feature works really well and the choice of... more

"Ordered online - no hassle at all. I paid extra for the liftgate service - got a call when truck was within 15 minutes of my house - driver dropped the unit exactly where I wanted it. Unit was packed very securely in a wood framed box on a pallet which the driver was nice enough to take back with him. Would definitely order from Snow Blowers Direct again!"

Well Built, Except The Engine.
Overall this snow blower works well, but the engine performance is below what I expected from Ariens.
It starts easy, and gets great traction, even on hills.

The one-hand operation is nice , allowing you to turn the chute while still moving. The easy turn mechanism works well, but if you catch a crack in the driveway, it thinks you are trying to turn, and it turns for you.

But the engine appears to be a cheap Chinese built thing, not an Ariens engine. It seems to run richer than it... more

Lemon
Purchased last year and ran good except sputtered some. This year it is hard to start and runs a few seconds. I have changed the gas, spark plug, and cleaned the carburetor...nothing seems to help. A lemon for sure!
