Q: Hello,

I am considering replacing my snow blower. Besides the clearing width and height, can you explain to me the key differences between Ariens 920014, 921035, and 921028?

Thanks!

by Ernie Jones from Massachusetts on August 24, 2013

A: Ernie,

The differences are mainly engine brand, engine size and impeller/auger size.

920014 = Briggs and Stratton 205cc engine, 12" impeller and 11" auger, no steering assistance and 13"x4" tires

921035 = B&S 250cc engine, 14" impeller and auger, Auto Turn steering assistance automatically slows the inside wheel during turns, 16"x5" tires, uses a crank to turn the discharge chute vs. a lever control on the other two models

921028 = Ariens 291cc engine made by LCT, 14" impeller and auger, Auto Turn steering, 16'x5' tires and heated grip hand warmers

I certainly recommend Ariens snow blowers. It's just a matter of what features are important to you.
by Bob, Product Expert
Q: Some websites show that the 2014 model of the Ariens 28 Deluxe+ has handwarmers. Is this correct or just a misstatement? Besides the engine and tire differences, what other upgrades does the 28 Deluxe+ have that the regular 28 Deluxe does not?
by Erik from Michigan on August 22, 2013

A: Erik,

My apologies but the response you received 8/22/2013 needs to be revised slightly. Both the 921030 and the 921035 have the auto turn steering assistance feature. Also, the 921030 has 15"x5" tires white the 931035 has slightly larger 16"x5" tires. I'm sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Thank you for your question and please keep us in mind for all of your power equipment needs.

Erik - neither one of the 2014 Ariens Deluxe 28 models (921030 or 921035) include the hand warmers as standard equipment. There is an optional hand warmer kit that can be added (#72101400), but this is sold separately. The major difference between the 921030 and the 921035 is that the 921035 (Deluxe +) has the "Auto-Turn" steering system, which senses as you turn and adjusts the power to the inside wheel automatically. You don't need any levers or triggers to control the power steering like you do on the 921030. The Deluxe 28+ model also has a larger gas tank.

Definitely Worth The Little Extra Money!!
I have not used the blower in the snow yet, but based on all the reviews and YouTube videos, snow performance is the least of my worries.

My snowblower showed up on time and in perfect condition. Unpacking and the little bit of assembly was no issue.

After doing a ton of research, I decided to go with the deluxe 28+ because of the Briggs engine, cast iron gear case and the easy turn drive system. For the extra few dollars, it seemed like a no-brainer to upgrade from the LCT engine and... more

Not Strong
This is my 3rd Ariens blower and others were very good. This is under powered and Bogs down with 6"-7" regular snow. My other two would blow thru this snow. Also paid more that at all other retailers around. Very disappointed.
Cons: Expensive, Not As Easy To Turn As The Advertising Would Have You Think, Heavy, Difficult To Use

Very Nice Machine For The Price
I chose the 28+ model, which differs only slightly from the standard Deluxe 28 unit. Equipped with taller 16" tires, I figured I'd get a little more grunt at the drive wheels, and an advantage in deep wet snow. Is that worth an extra 100 bucks? Hard to say, but an extra 1/2" of ground clearance sure can't hurt. I also favored the Briggs engine, in spite of it's Chinese pedigree. Both Ariens engines (Briggs, LCT) have good reputations and nearly identical specs, though.

Poor Engine Quality!
So far I have missed three snows and another coming tonight. I received my Ariens 28" deluxe and the crate was damaged. Luckily there was no damage. My problem began after running the engine for break in and checking for needed adjustments. I found that the Snow Force (Briggs and Stratton) engine was leaking oil. It was not related to having too much oil the unit. I was able to track down a nearby authorized repair shop and dropped it off. After several gaskets and suggestions by Briggs... more

Would'nt Start
I called a local dealer and explained that the unit was extremely difficult to start. I just about wore the electric starter out trying to get it started. It finally did start but wouldn't go above an idol speed, when I tried to increase the rpm it just died and wouldn't restart. After sitting for 10 min it would start and idol only. I knew it wasn't getting fuel so I asked the local Ariens dealer to come get it and they agreed and told me I would be charged $35.00 for pic up fee. Now why in... more

Ron,
We are so very sorry for the trouble you had with your new Arien's snow blower. The problem definitely sounds like a factory defect. We are glad that the Arien's service dealer was able to fix the issue under warranty. We have asked our accounting department to issue a $50 refund to your credit card for your trouble. Again, our apologies for any frustration or inconvenience this has caused you.

Snow Muscle
I live in northern NJ and deal with light fluffy snow to heavy wet snow with ice. I have used my Ariens 28 deluxe 4 times so far this winter in the conditions described above, and I am very happy with my decision to buy. I am the guy on the block that snow blows my two elderly neighbors sidewalks and driveways as well.

This machine has auto turn which works well in tight turns and spots with little effort. If there is ice layer on bottom of snow use lower speed settings so the machine... more

Not Bad Not Great, Durable For Sure But Heavy And Hard To Turn
I live in Colorado. We have lots of snow and have had a few bad ice/snow storms. The unit fired right up with one pull and is very durable, no question. However the "turn on a dime claim" just isn't true, it's actually difficult to turn the unit while moving with any speed and I pretty am fit. It's a good unit but if you have modest or tight turns vs. a long straight drive you may want to think twice about this model.
Pros: High Quality, Durable
Cons: Heavy, Not As Easy To Turn As The Advertising Would Have You Think

My 921035 Is A Powerful Machine
We picked the right time to buy, because we had a rough winter and needed the extra boost to get it over the snow banks. It had plenty of power and we loved the power steering. This is my 3rd Ariens in forty years and I would buy another one and I would brag it up to anyone I speak with.

Good Machine But...
I bought this model after tons of research and am very happy with my selection. It is rock solid and has been performing very well. The first two times I used it I couldn't have been happier. The third time I went to use it the thing started leaking gas all over the place when I opened up the gas line. I called Ariens and was directed to a warranty repair place. Of course a machine this size I don't have a trailer to get it there and had to pay $50 to transport it to and from the shop after... more
