Q: When you get it delivered is their a lot of assembly required? by Kurt Pappalardo from Massachusetts on August 10, 2012
A: Kurt - assembly is pretty minimal. You will need to fold up the handle assembly and tighten it into place. You will need to attach the discharge chute and connect the chute rotation rod to the dash. Add oil and fill it up with gas. That's pretty much the extent of the assembly on this model. by Kriss, Product Expert
Q: Do you have chains for the back tires? by Edwatrd Duszak from Delaware on October 24, 2011
A: Edward - the Cub Cadet 524WE has 15" x 5" tires. The Toro snow blower tire chains should fit, since the Toro's and the Cub 524WE use the same tire: tire chains by Kriss, Product Expert
Q: Hi Kriss:
What is the difference between a Cub Cadet 524 WE and SWE? by Oney Smith from Maryland on September 24, 2011
A: Oney - The Cub Cadet 524SWE has an "assisted steering" (power steering) system. The Cub Cadet 524WE does not. by Kriss, Product Expert

So Far So Good...just Need Snow
Received the Cub Cadet 524SWE in a crate which more than protected the snowblower. The crate was probably the biggest pain in assembling the snowblower...many staples holding the crate together. Once I was able to get the unit out of the crate I just followed the instructions and was able to assemble the snowblower in 30-45 minutes. I did have one issue - the electric wire heading up to the headlight was broken and I needed to solder the line and use a little shrink wrap tubing to seal the joint.
I then added fuel with stabilizer, plugged in the snowblower, adjusted the settings and it started up instantly. Everything appears to be working properly and now I just need some snow to try it it. Was hoping for snow last night but only 2" of snow arrived...not enough to test the snowblower. From what I can tell I am prepared with this unit.

An Exceptional Little 2-stage That's Put Together Right
I bought this to replace an older MTD/Yard Machines model that had simply seen the end of its days. I was originally hesitant to purchase this model because of the steering assist, thinking it would be one more thing to go wrong, but after reading many reviews and watching videos, I figured it'd be something nice to have. Actually, I'm fairly sure that making tight turns with a solid axle on the old snow blower wasn't any good for it in the long run.
Anyway, it took about 15 minutes to put everything together and it started right up on the first pull. Of course it hasn't snowed since we got it, but I did get a chance to try it out up and down the driveway and an un-cleared section of sidewalk. Seems to have a nice throw to it, and the chute controlling joystick is really nice. I am finding it a little odd how hard it is to pull the lever down to the reverse gears. The cable may be a little tight or something.
All of the important parts are linked with solid interconnects, and I really like the blue skids on the side, although we'll see how long those last. All the important stuff is here, and I'll probably be buying a pair of heated handles just to make things that much more enjoyable.

Excellent Machine
After 30 years of hand shoveling, I broke down and bought a snow blower. Timing was perfect! I used it once a fee weeks ago with a small storm but the blizzard of 2013 was a real test and it came through with flying colors! What a great machine! It started up right away and performed fantastically!

Great Experience
I went online to look for a 24" Blower that had power steering.
I found it here so I ordered it. PED was great at letting me know just where the blower was at all times.
The shipping Company set up a time when I would be home to inspect the Blower once it got here.
The Blower was in perfect shape.
I just want to Thank all of you that were involved with order.

Sad But True
We had purchased one of these models 3 years ago with perfect timing as there was a very heavy snowfall that year and we absolutely loved it. I have been married 25 years, my wife said then that she liked her new snow blower better than any ring or gift I could have bought!
Her mother is elderly but still in her own home and my wife loved how she could simply drive the Cub Cadet up our quad ramps into the pickup, use the nice slow reverse to back it down again, and clear her Mom's sidewalks in only minutes and go back home!
Sadly, last winter someone stole it from our home and we went one season without it but luckily did not have a lot of snow. This year started off right away with heavy snowfall and we went shopping for a new one. We live in British Columbia, Canada only 10 miles from the B.C. and Idaho border and in a fairly rural community.
After a lot of shopping around locally and online, we were really having trouble finding the model we wanted at the price we could afford. There are many other brands with all the same features and often much cheaper but on the show room floor, we both felt none of them were quite as 'comfortable' as the Cub Cadet.
Then we found Snow Blowers Direct and there it was for what we were willing to pay. The free shipping is what did it - so we did not look any further. We had a question for Kriss about getting it right to the store in Idaho so we could pick it up easily and he answered it right away with exactly what we needed to hear.
The shipping was just before Christmas and was even delayed because of (can you believe it) heavy snowfall making roads too bad in north Idaho so we had to wait one extra day!!
Now, it should be noted that we did not rate this review the highest it could be but that is partly from our own error. We tried to read as much as possible on line and when ordering it we thought this one had the hand warmers on it as our last one did but sadly it does not. Therefore, the price is not quite as good as we anticipated but otherwise it is perfect for our needs making my wife very happy indeed - a wise man has said "happy wife, happy life"!
Overall,we love our snow blower again!
Thank you Kriss and SB Direct.

Simply The Best
I've had one of the Cub Cadet 524SWE snowblowers for 5 years, and I have to say that it is the best and easiest to use snowblower I've ever used. A friend and I clear the driveways for 5 or more properties every time it snows here in Northern Idaho, so it gets some intense use.
We have up to 12 feet of snow per winter. I have used many other brands of snowblowers, and this one outperforms them all. The power steering makes it so easy to maneuver that it can clear more snow faster than bigger snowblowers. It is the nearly perfect blend of size and power to make it ideal for everything from sidewalks to parking lots. I've used it to plow through packed berms that were over three feet high after the snowplows came through, and it chews right through them.
Another plus is the exceptionally well designed drive system. After five years I just tore it down to do a complete maintenance and found that it needed nothing except some minor cleaning and adjustments to the cables. Compare that to my partners 28 inch Ariens snowblower which I also just tore down, and the difference is amazing. The Ariens was a mechanical mess, with some major work needed to get it running properly again, and a very poorly designed system for adjusting the mechanical parts. The Ariens was also filthy inside, with a lot of mud and dirt inside because there are many holes in the body of the blower that allow water and dirt to accumulate inside.
I can't recommend the Cub Cadet 524SWE highly enough.

Black Friday Was A White Friday
The snowblower came as advertised. It arrived in good shape and was dropped off right in my garage. After 15 minutes of assembly I was ready to go.
Well, on Black Friday I woke up to our first snowfall of the year and it was 15 inches. The snowblower on its maiden voyage worked perfectly. The snow flew and it never bogged down, even in the heavy end-of-driveway plow snow.
The machine works great and the delivery was as advertised.

So Far So Good
With a Nor'easter storm coming tomorrow I decided to get my snow blower up and ready for the upcoming storm and the winter season. I found that setting up the snow blower and following the maintenance book was an easy task. I added the gasoline and checked the oil reading which only took about 5 or 10 minutes- easy.
I then followed the directions from the book and it only took 1 pull of the handle and the snow blower started without a hitch. I went through the gears front and reverse without a hassle and found that the motor was quiet and moved without effort. Of course the power steering mechanism made it effortless. I then tried to maneuver the chute right to left and left to right and up and down effortlessly.
Before purchasing the Cub Cadet I did a lot of research on snow blowers and found that the Cub Cadet was one of the top in its class. I would recommend this snow blower to anyone. The price was comparable to other manufacturers and the warranty was better than the competitors.
If this snow blower works this easy without snow I can only imagine how it will perform when the snow piles up. Thanks, Cub Cadet for making such a great machine. I know it will provide many years of great service.

Waiting For Snow
The entire process from ordering to delivery was excellent....and frustration free.
We live high up in the Colorado Rockies and our Cub Cadet was delivered exactly on time and wheeled into our garage for us. Uncrating and setup was easy, and it started on the first pull.
My wife and I ran it around our paved driveway to see how it feels and the power steering, zero turn radius, is wonderful. She weighs 110 pounds soaking wet and it's very easy for her to maneuver.
Now we're just praying for snow.

Finally Have Snow Blower Now Waiting For That 1st Snow Fall
After much searching and comparing I finally pulled the trigger and ordered my Cub Cadet with power steering from PED. The snow blower arrived as stated when ordered, delivered with no issues to my garage. The hardest part was removing the shipping crate, man do they build a cone of protection around this equipment. Once I had the crate removed the setup of the snow blower was quick and easy.
The first push or the electric start button and she came to life. After an hour or so of getting acquitted with all the controls I now have a beast of a snow blower at the ready. We’ve not received any snow to speak of this year so if all I’ve accomplished with this purchase was warding off snow for this winter then its money well spent. I now have peace of mind that when that next significant snow fall does occur I'm ready to attack it with a snow eating machine instead of my back, arms and shovel.

The Factory Quality Control Stinks!!
I picked up the 524SWE the Monday before we got 9 inches of snow on Saturday Jan. 21st. I put it together per the instructions, which were very easy to follow. After putting it together I started it up to try it out. Everything seemed to work well. I only went about 20 feet turned around and put it away hoping for snow. Well I got my wish, woke up to 9 or 10 inches of snow! Went out to the garage, started the unit and when I engaged the drive gear it jumped like a rabbit . The speed control was stuck on high, and with my knee replacement I could not keep up with it, also there was no reverse gear.
I called the service place that PED told me was the closest for me and I explained to him what had happened. He said to bring it in and if the problem was because I put it together wrong, there would be a $35.00 charge for him to look at it. Well I didn't care for his attitude so I went to another place and had no "BS " at all!!
The dealer said the drive gear had no pin in it and slipped down the shaft. He repaired it and now I am again waiting for a snow fall!
I was well satisfied with PED and the people at Target O. P. E. in Lemont ILL. I'm sure the 524SWE will prove to be a great machine after I get to use it!! The bum rating is for the factory quality control people not the machine!!

Updated: Waiting On First Snow
Update: Feb 2, 2012:
LOVED IT - snow of about 9", and worked great as planned. Threw it as far as advertised, so able to 'blow faster. Glad I "practiced" in the yard. JUST WISH IT WOULD SNOW MORE!
=======================================
Shipped earlier than the back-ordered time, arrived and with my son the lift gate service brought it into the garage. I spent more time uncrating the snowblower then setting it up! Very easy to set up, added a little more gas, checked the oil, and fired it up on the second pull.
Spent the next 15 minutes "test driving" it in the driveway. The steering included with this model is just great so far - just have to wait to test it out with the first snowfall! Missed the 2 inches we got from the October snowfall.

Looks nice and steers great. Had a 1979 8 or 9 hp Toro before this and needless to say this is nice and shiny. Toro was a tank, but I will say that this snow blower is extremely quiet or I'm going deaf and seems a lot easier to maneuver. We have had Zero snow and now that I bought this we probably wont get any, but if we do I will follow up. Snow Blowers Direct was a pleasure to deal with and great pricing. Thanks....Stan

Sweet
Got mine day before 8.7" wet snow storm. Easily threw 35+'. Was concerned about how clear the pavement would be left as my driveway is on a hill. No sweat as it cleaned nearly as well as my old single stage paddle. Took me half the time.

No Good
I just bought my Cub Cadet on 12/1/2011. (524SWE) Took it home, fueled it up, checked the oil and read the operator's manual.
Pulled the starter 2 times and it started up. Right away it was making a bad sound. I tried run it thru all of the gears however something was wrong. It did not shift smooth, and when I tried reverse it would not back up.
When I removed the lower inspection cover I noticed bearing assembly for the drive wheel had pulled apart. When I went to Cub Cadet's web site, they did not have any part's diagram for 2011 524SWE.
A lot of stuff has to come off to replace this part. Never even got to use it once. too bad. Also noticed that there was no oil or grease applied to the steel drive gears. I don't think I will buy any Cub Cadet product after this. Looking at TORO.

I just received my new snow blower. It was pretty easy to set up. Started quickly and seems to work fine. I love the power steering feature. This is a large blower and would be difficult with this feature. Since I bought it I'm sure it will not snow so I'll update this later. But so far, I love it.

Although I have not a chance to start it up yet, everything looks fine. The delivery truck was excellent. The snow blower was crated and packed very very good. There was no apparent damage, no missing parts. The limited assembly was very easy. I followed the instructions in the manual with no problems. With the exception of starting up the machine everything works fine. I can't wait to use it. I just need to add gas and pray for some snow.

524swe Is The Way To Go
Snowblowersdirect is the way to go hands down. Customer Service is great, and shipping times are very reasonable. So far I am very happy with my 524SWE. From unloading off the tractor trailer, assembly and testing out in my driveway was under 30 minutes. Power steering feature works great I tested it out on my asphalt driveway, wet grass, and loose gravel, it performed great on all three surfaces. Definitely a back saver with out a doubt. Added a little bit of gas, checked the oil and the snow blower started on the second pull fresh off the shipping pallet, the electric start feature also worked perfect.
I purchased this blower to get into the tight spots that I can not get with my tractor but have a feeling I will be using the blower for the whole driveway because it is so easy and enjoyable to use. I have not had any snow to test it out in yet, but I am very confident that it will perform great. If you are looking for a very nice medium sized 2 stage snow blower I highly recommend the Cub Cadet 524SWE. Do not feel discouraged that assembly is required, it is very easy and will take a very short amount of time. Plus most dealers will charge $50+ for set up alone save your money and follow the instructions and you will be fine. I added a couple pictures to give you an idea of what to expect when yours arrives.
