1 Question
Q: Is the Husqvarna ST121E (21") 208cc self propelled?
Also, is there a comparable less expensive model or brand? by Sam Joseph from Colorado on November 01, 2012
A: Sam - there really are no "self-propelled" single stage snow blowers. Self-propelled drive systems are really only found on two-stage snow blowers. Many of the higher end single stage models, like this Husqvarna, have what's called an "auger-assisted" drive system. Since the auger paddles actually contact the surface being cleared of snow, the auger paddles will help "pull" the snow blower forward. But this only works when moving the snow blower forward. When you need to back up, that is 100% human power. by Kriss, Product Expert
The Husqvarna ST121E single stage snow blower is compact in it's design, but high-performing when it comes to clearing drive ways and paths of light to moderate snow fall.
The Husqvarna ST121E is powered by an LCT 208cc 4-cycle engine. No need to pre-mix the gas and oil to run this machine. And the electric start feature makes it a breeze to start - even on the coldest winter days. Just push the start button to fire it up.
The Husqvarna ST121E is very easy to maneuver. The innovative remote chute control lets you guide the snow exactly where you want it so it's out of the way. The bright LED dash-mounted light means you can clear snow from early mornings to late at night.

Not Worth It
Not impressed one bit. The machine arrived when expected, but after I opened the box I found that the plastic housing was cracked. Too late to send it back, the delivery truck was long gone by that time. Husqvarna will not replace the cover and I am stuck with a $600 machine that has a crack in it and I had not even used it yet. However, two days later I was able to use it for one snow storm that hit the KC area and I was able to try out my investment. It is super heavy and it was a beast to push in the deep snow (8"). I only weight 170 pounds and it took everything I had to move it through the snow. I think it was harder on my back than shoveling would have been. I would have chosen to purchase another model had I known it was such a monster to move. Furthermore, I had to keep going back over the same area multiple times since the snow was too deep to pass over it. I guess that is what I get for buying a close out model. Lesson learned.

Husqvarna Snow Thrower
Bought this through Snow Blowers Direct. Easy online purchase, arrived fast and in good condition. Impressed.
I had a Sears thrower and liked to use it for light and moderate snowfalls. I have a two stage for the big wet stuff.
I use my blower 85% of the time. I had heard good things about Husqvarna and wanted to give it a try. It meets all of my expectations. Is a powerful single stage thrower. Really kicks the snow out. We had a 7 inch snowfall a week after it arrived and I wasn't sure I would be able to use the Husqvarna because of the snow depth. I did and it worked great. This is a nice unit. I like all aspects of this unit and have no complaints. I like the power in this unit. Throws snow as far as most two stage units and clearly outperforms other single stage blowers. I recommend it.

Led Headlights
The Snow-Blower works very well, but will start much easier and runs a little better if customers use a pure gas without Ethanol. A good gas stabilizer like Seafoam is also helpful when storing the gasoline.
One disturbing issue is Husqvarna has decided to be dishonest with their customers. The LED headlamps were designed with a voltage range that is slightly lower than what the supply is for the snow-blower, and therefore a number of the LED headlamps have been burning out. Husqvarna has an internal memo on the design problem but decided to lie to their customers and tell customers that the LED headlamps go out due to vibration and therefore are a wear item and not covered under the warranty.
Husqvarna even has a new harness with a 5 ohm resistor to create a voltage drop and lower the voltage to the LED headlamps so that they will not burn out, but continues to lie to all of their customers and charge about $100 per headlamp to force the customers to pay for their careless design.
Some of the Husqvarna warranty people know what a ridiculous lie it is, that an LED is like an Incandescent bulb which has a filament and can easily break from vibration, but do not care and still tell people that it is not warranted due to vibration.

My Old Snow Blower Died
I had to get a new one right away and found Snow Blowers Direct...great products at awesome pricing. My blower was at my house in a couple of days. I love this blower...it is light weight and easy to use. I am not new to Husqvarna, I have a leaf blower that just keeps going and looks good too. I highly recommend the Husqvarna line of products.

Husqvarna St121e
After researching a number of single stage snow blowers I decided on the Husqvarna ST121E, I use all Husqvarna Power Equipment around my home and have never had any problems, so after reviewing the leading competitors it was a no brainer to go with the Husqvarna. Snow Blowers Direct had the best price around and fast courteous delivery I would recommend them to anyone looking for any kind of Power Equipment, Excellent Experience with this Company!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing but problems from the get go. I received this machine missing some of the proper screws to assemble the unit, no big deal, but strike 1. This machine is incredibly hard to push. The advertisement states the unit will be propelled by the auger...not the case. When I am done plowing my driveway, it feels like I shoveled. It feels like I am pushing a boulder up and down the driveway. So I contacted Snow Blowers Direct for advice. The "professional" I spoke with recommended that spay the underbelly of the machine with a slippery spray material. I thought this advice was laughable, and there was no concern that my machine was missing parts. Snow Blowers Direct really was no help....at all. so I called Husqvarna. They agreed the advice given by Snow Blower Direct was not a good solution and will not resolve the issue, however, all they did was send me a schematic. There was no one at Husqvarna who knew anything about this machine. Bottom line, I bought a bad blower for $600. I never had this issue with any previous snowblowers. I recommend you get anything but the Husqvarna unless you enjoy lower back pain.

I'm Pretty Happy...
So my wife and I decided that when we had the money, we would buy a snow blower. Of course, being a guy, I started looking at the highest CC to clearing inches ratio I could find, which included snow blowers with steering assist and electric chute controls, I was excited. Then my wife informed me, she wasn't really thinking we would spend that much, and she was imagining a single stage unit. Begrudgingly, I started browsing and found reviews on SnowBlowersDirect.com. They had information about several different models and prices that were better than most of the big box stores in town, and they were willing to ship for free.
I made a decision on the Husqvarna because of the ratings on SnowBlowersDirect.com and the Husqvarna name. Although I was unaware they made snow blowers, but I've had great experiences with chainsaws. It was delivered in a few days and I got it put together easily that afternoon. I was a little worried we wouldn't have any more snow, but over the last 2 days we've had about 12-15 inches. I went out several times, when the snow was thin and thick. The "Transformer" snow blower, as my kids call it, worked awesome! Every drift got chewed right through. It worked on the drift left by the snowplow that turns around in front of our house, which was the main intent. I'm impressed and I'm additionally happy because it looks as though the more common parts to wear from use, are planned to be replaced and easily exchanged. I don't mind replacing wear bars and blades if they're not a huge pain, and Husqvarna seems to have recognized that.
I've already recommended SnowBlowersDirects.com to a friend. I'm pretty happy about my purchase.

Does A Nice Job
We have just started to use the snow blower. Its starts up right away. It is easy to handle and does a nice job of clearing the snow.
The real test will be when we get 12 to 18 inches of snow. However, we expect it to be great. We are very pleased with not only the snow blower but the service we received. Power Equipment Direct will certainly be the first place we look for all our needs.

Very Awesome Looking Machine, Can'T Wait to Try It Next Season..... Assembly Was Easy, But I Did Not Like the Way the Factory Routed the Wires & Cables.. So I Changed Them Because the Pull Cord "When Needed" Will Rub Them.
I Added 3 Flat Washers to the Discharge Chute & a Drop of Blue Locktight to Each Bolt . Maybe They Should Supply a Tiny Tube ?? Added 2 Zip Wire Ties to Hold Wires and Cables in a Better Position. Headlights Are Going to Work Nice, I Hope When They Wear Out I Can Still Get Them An I Hope to Change Them Will Be Easy Enough. This Thing Looks Like It Will Be a Real Snow Storm Killer .

I Love My Husqvarna
I replaced my 11 yr old cub cadet with this model once that one stopped working. I was looking for this style vs the larger walk behind model due to limited garage space. I did all of the research I could do on these models and ultimately the 208cc snow king engine, the straight gas (no oil mix), the electric start (which have never had on any equipment), the added headlights (not that I think I need them), the brand name and reputation and the dollar value compared to others were my deciding factor.
It arrived within days which was a plus also. It was really 90% assembled in the carton and finishing this was a less than 10 minute deal. I only had to bolt on the chute and flip the handle upright and tighten, and then add oil.
It has yet to snow here, but I have fired it up a couple times just because I wanted to once it was ready. It fires right up and I can wait to throw some snow.
I would definitely recommend this unit.
Just be sure that you DO ADD the oil. It does not come with the oil filled.
