  1 Question
Q: I moved to snow country for the first time. I need to plow 1 sidewalk of about 30 feet and a path out to my woodshed, about 60 feet. The area going to my shed has fine pea gravel. What sort of thrower do I need?
by Fred Mitchell from Washington on May 09, 2011

A: In most instances the choice of a single stage is great and right up your alley. The only issue you need to keep in mind is the path to your woodshed. With the path being pea gravel, a single stage snow blower is going to most likely kick up and be blown onto your grass and go out the chute. With single stage snow blowers, the paddles which pick up the snow actually scrape along the ground and can pick up gravel. When dealing with any kind of loose gravel, a two stage is suggested because they don't totally touch the ground.

In all, would a single stage be ideal for you, Yes, but you would need to make adjustments when you get into your back path to keep from throwing rocks.

Thanks,

Happy With New Snow Blower
Very pleased to date. Product delivered on time, started immediately and has worked very well so far in several snowfalls up to eight inches.

I Am Ready For Snow!
The blizzard of 2011 came and left a record snowfall in Oklahoma, as well as most of the country. I vowed never to get caught with my pants down like that again.

I ordered my MTD Gold 31AM2N1B704 through SnowBlowersDirect.com due to they had the selection and the reviews. Plus finding a snow blower in Oklahoma is like finding an air conditioner at the Pikes Peak gift shop.

Unit came in as advertised and I am waiting for the next snow. Came with oil, I got some gas and It fired up! I... more

Snow Blower Saga
My brother in law gave me a 1979 snow blower he no longer needed. It was made by MTD. Several months ago we had a bit of snow and when I tried to use it, the motor ran but I thought the blades on the auger were too worn and it did not blow snow. Ordered a new auger from you. Turned out to be a bear to install. Getting the old one out necessitated taking the sawsall to it. Got the new one in. We had more snow and now the machine would start but not run for more than a few seconds before cutting... more

Snow-apolis!
I live in Minneapolis which is now nicknamed Snow-apolis with 70+ inches of snow this season! I Had a Sears Craftsman break down on me this year so I bought the MTD Gold.

We just got 13 inches on 02/20/2011. This machine blew snow 25 feet plus and handled it like a 2 stage! Highly recommend it. Need to see how many years I can get out of it.

New Mtd Gold Snow Blower
I received my new MTD machine in 3 days with free shipping and no sales tax. That was great. Filled it with gas and oil and it started on the 1st pull. I didn't get to use it for 3 weeks because the weather warmed up and we thought we were done with winter, until yesterday's prediction of 1-3 inches of light snow turned into 6-7 inches of heavy wet snow.

My new MTD ate it up and spit it out like a champ. What a great compact machine. Worth every penny of the great low price tag.

My Thoughts On The Mtd Gold Single Stage Snow Blower
I received my snow blower in a very short time after ordering. Assembly was very easy and I was soon ready to blow snow. The unit started first by the pull cord and then with the built in 120 volt starter. So far so good. We did get about a three inch snowfall and I gave it the inaugural run. Snow throwing ability was good but it did not push well as the axle was bent and one wheel was severely out of alignment. I finished the driveway and sidewalk after a considerable amount of snow... more

Excellent Purchase Experience
This review is really about snowblowersdirect.com. I already have owned an MTD for 10+ years and have had almost NO problems with it (consumable items wore out eventually like the belt and scraper bar.) I live in a Minneapolis suburb where we get a fair amount of snow.

I must admit I was hesitant to purchase such a large item (and difficult to ship) over the internet. I called snowblowersdirect once to ask a question and got through very quickly to a REAL HUMAN who was very helpful in... more

Michigan In The Spring
It is the end of March 2011 and I am happy to actually say I have not had the chance to use my new MTD Gold Snow Blower. It is very solid and looks well built. Snow Blowers Direct had it at my door step within 24 hours of my order. This was a late season purchase, my old unit broke one Midwest 12 inch snow storm short of Spring (I hope) There I was shoveling. So my wife says its time for a new one. I can't wait to try it in the snow. Hopefully, not too soon though.

My New Snow Blower
My wife ordered this snow blower for my birthday. I have never owned or operated a snow blower before. About a week after receiving the snow blower there came a pretty big snow storm.

I took the snow blower out of the box. I filled it with oil and gas. I pulled the cord and it cranked right up (I have not tried the electric start yet). Even though I was a novice snow blower operator, I cleaned my sidewalks and driveway in very little time. I have now used the snow blower on three occasions... more
