Q: What is the horse power of this snow thrower? by Ruby from California on April 04, 2011
A: This unit is going to be about 6 HP. This is not going to be exact, but pretty close. Manufacturers don't typicallly list the HP for fear of some improper listing of horse power by others, so everyone is looking to be on the safe side.
Even though this is only around 5 HP, being two stage gives it a little more umph to throw most snow. That being said, don't wait till the snow is too thick, especially wet snow. Really happy with mine. So far so good!!

mtd single speed 2 stage snowblower
Works very good, easy to use, except after 2 years of use the transmission went out, - no replacement parts are available- must put in a new transmission assembly at $124 for the part - I was able to install it with ease.

First use worked great
I used this machine for the first time since having purchased it in late December and it worked great- throwing around thirty plus inches of snow with ease.

New Snow Thrower
I'm looking forward to using my snow thrower. As luck would have it, there hasn't been a significant snowfall since I purchased it.
I chose MTD because of recommendations from friends and I don't think I'll be disappointed.

Bummer
I got one of these in 2008, and it has been in the shop for warranty four times now. I have only got to use it twice in all that time.
