2 Yrs, and down.
Had my previous MTD for 10+ years, and LOVED it. It handled record setting snowfalls on a driveway that could easily park 3 tractor trailers. When it finally had an issue that was going to cost big money we opted to get another, and sell the old for parts.
Too bad the new one was not as as powerful. My banks are getting high now, and this one is more like machine gunning the sides, rather than up and over. My old one would have laughed at these banks.
Worse than anything, it died after only 1.5 winters. The motor works fine, but the rotors won't pull the snow in anymore. They just spin freely if you push on them. Not sure what happened, but there's no access for me to get at the drive gears, and the shear pins are in tact. Now I have to send it in to be repaired, and that's gonna cost me - a LOT. Not cool, when it wasn't even a bad storm - only about 8 inches. I expected more.

good machine
Picked one up the day before the Chicago 2011 blizzard. This machine did the job. We had 3 foot drifts and lots of snow. It took anything I could throw at it.

My husband and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this blower
My husband and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this blower. I don't know why we didn't get it years ago.
Here in Northern Nevada we can get some high snow and drifting with it. We also had snow again a couple of days ago and we had it removed on a very large drive way within 15 minutes.
Its a great product.
Thanks a lot for the info you provided so we could make the right decision on what model we needed.
PERFECT !!!

What a machine!
I'm on my 2nd MTD snowblower now, after more than 35 years of owning one.
I sold my first one when we moved to Phoenix for a few years. It was a 5HP, 22" wide machine and it reliably served me for 20 years (I sold it to friend in 1990, and he's still using it).
I live in the Denver area now, and my second unit is a 26 inch wide and 8HP model. I've had this one for over 15 years and it's going strong also.
In my book these things are bullet proof! They are easy to start, and I've never needed any engine work. I just occasionally need to replace a sheer pin in the auger mechanism (they do their job).
I've moved snow higher than the front scoop many times! It eats snow like it wasn't there.
I can't say enough for these machines (I have one of their lawnmowers, also). They are easy to operate, always reliable and tuff!
You can't beat an MTD product!

Not happy with MTD support
I bought this model 600 series in the fall of 2008, I first used it in December. I had to run it with the choke part way out so it would run, but it had no power.
I called MTD and they told me to take it to an authorized service place near me. They said the carburetor was faulty. I waited over 1-1/2 months for him to get the carb and this was when I needed the blower the most. I bought it so I would have a snow blower when I needed it.
I am thankful I kept the old one that is 22 years old and is well worn. I got the new one back, and used it one more time on a 3-inch snowfall. The shoes were worn down so the tub was wearing on the pavement- my old blower's shoes lasted 10 years or more.
I fired it up this week, checked it over and the chute would not turn when I cranked it. I had to modify the coil on the crank shaft so it would engage the chute.
I asked MTD to extend my warranty by the amount of time it was laid up. They asked me to jump through all kinds of hoops. They had my original registration. I told them that if they had faith in the product like they wanted me to have, then adjusting the warranty should not be a problem.
I also did not know that they were putting their own engines on them. At first blush it looked like a Briggs to me. I think all the parts are made in China. Do not expect to get much info on the motor in the manual. They don't give it to you.
I have owned lawn tractors and snow blowers made by MTD in the past and they served well for the money. But now it is more about how the customer service is so pathetic. They need to change how they treat their customers and make a reliable product, or they will not be around much longer.
I think they got that large corporate attitude and look at today's profit to sell the company to some other large business and are not in it for the long haul.
If you like to be treated like a deserving customer, look elsewhere. I am sure you worked hard for your money, invest it wisely. DO NOT buy MTD.
