Q: Hello,
Have you gotten any feedback on whether or not the redesigned scraper bar is actually preventing the blow back?
I'm interested in this machine. I just want to make sure the problem has been fixed and that it's a well built, overall good machine. by Troy Casper from Nebraska on February 11, 2013
A: Troy - yes, this issue has been corrected. Actually, the scraper bar is still the same. The frame of the snow blower has been redesigned. It's now heavier in the front so that scraper bar stays engages with the surface being cleared of snow. by Kriss, Product Expert
Q: Hey Kriss have McCulloch corrected the problem that results in the snow blowing back and under the unit model MC621 in question ? by Anonymous on September 23, 2011
A: They have. The frame and scraper bar on the McCulloch MC621 have been completely redesigned on this year's model. The front of the MC621 hugs the ground now, which eliminates the "blow back" that was an issue on the 2010 model. by Kriss, Product Expert
Q: is McCulloch still made in USA or did they sellout to China like most everyone else? by Anonymous on August 06, 2011
I had a 21" toro for 10 yrs before I replaced it with this McCulloch thinking the larger engine would be better in the heavy wet snow we often get. What a piece of JUNK!!!! Right out of the box the scrapper blade was loose, almost falling off, the chute support ring that holds the chute had two of the three mounting tabs broken off and was missing the hardware to connect the chute, the gas tank was loose and secured only by plastic zip ties, and side panels were missing the flat washers needed to prevent the screw heads from pulling through. The engine performs well, starting on the first pull and throws the heavy wet snow, but the machine itself is worthless, dont waste your money on this on

First 3 Inches Of Snow
I gassed the snow blower up, added oil, & put the handles up. I used it for less than 10 minutes, and it seemed to really hang up- it was hard to push on nice flat blacktop. I turned it off & looked under it- the wear bar, that has been apparently improved from the 2010 model from what I read, is falling off.
I guess I will be looking up the nearest warranty center with 10 minutes of run time on it- YIKES. I would not buy another or recommend this unit. I was buying because of brand. This must just be a re-brand type snow blower or something.
SBD RESPONDS: You may want to give the folks at McCulloch Tech Support a call, toll free, at 800-487-5951 to see if it's more convenient to re-attach the wear bar yourself (they are meant to be replaced by the owner when they wear out).
You can also use the Service Center link at the bottom of our web site to find the Authorized Warranty Service locations close to your zip code.

I bought this model last year, used it once and the thing will not pull itself anymore. It throws snow on my feet and the rubber on the paddle and the scraper bar are both shot. I can not get parts for it. It is useless the way it is and I am thinking is to scrap it out and try recoup some of the $500 I paid for it. I see the gas tank is even loose. Very poor quality. I guess I will be buying a new blower again this year. Honda too expensive, but maybe Toro will be good.

Thanks Snow Blowers Direct
Where was I to find a snowblower at the end of January in New England with 6 feet of snow already on the ground. Certainly not the Big Box stores. Order at lunch on Thursday and it arrived on Saturday.
Why did I even bother to drive all over creation when I just need to type.

Great Company
I am impressed not just with my snowblower but SnowBlowersDirect.com had it to me in 3 days. Only 3 days! Very Impressive. I highly recommend buying a snow blower from Snow Blowers Direct.

My purchase was easy. Shipping was fast. I received the blower in 2 days! The machine does a great job. It is much more powerful than similar blowers owned by friends. The engine is larger and the unit never jams up. This is an amazing value. The down side is there has been a slow dripping of gas from the tank or carberator that never stops. It has done this from day one. My garage smells of gas. What do I do to get this problem corrected? We purchased one of these machines for my office at the same time. It arrived in perfect condition.

Similar Problems
I've had similar problems with mine that were mentioned in other reviews. The snow shoots back under the blower if I'm not careful. It does not always do that - if you blow it just right it won't happen. But who can remember that when you are doing a whole driveway.
I also have a problem with the chute staying in place and to be honest, this part really gets in my crawl. I guess I will see if there is something I can do to rig it to stay in place over the summer months. However, these two issues do not make me real happy having spent $500.
On the positive, it does not seem to have any problem with the different types of snow. It is pretty powerful and if your chute is adjusted correctly it will throw it quite far.

For a single stage snow blower I am quite impressed by how far it can throw the snow. The 208cc motor really does the trick.
However, when I used the machine for the first time, I noticed that the snow was shooting backwards and the machine was not doing a great job clearing the path of snow. Therefore I made an adjustment to the scraper bar and the job the machine was doing improved.
Overall, I think it is a very nice snow blower for the money.

Blows Snow On My Feet!
I ordered this snow blower back in October, and we finally got enough snow to use it (Denver area)! I've never used a snow blower before, so I don't know what to compare it against, but my initial impressions are not positive!
First off, as noted by other reviewers, it blows snow out the back of the blower, covering my feet and leaving behind a covering of snow on the path that I'm clearing! That can't be right!
Also, one of the touts of this machine was how far it can throw the snow. Having a very large 3 car driveway, this was one of the appeals of the machine, as I wanted to be able to start in the middle and blow snow over the driveway..., not the case. It basically blows it onto the sides of the driveway, not reaching the lawn or street. So, I got to "blow it twice" as I progressed outward.
Also, the discharge chute is Mickey Mouse at best..., it won't stay in place, it cannot be adjusted from the handle (you have to step forward and reach down and reposition it each time you turn), and the adjustable directional discharge cover wouldn't stay tight. It is held onto the discharge chute by two carriage bolts, one with a nut, the other with a large plastic wing nut so theoretically you can adjust the angle of discharge. The side with just the nut came off and dissappeared! It basically rendered the discharge chute useless!
I went online to try to find the correct replacement parts and after 30 minutes of searching, there are not parts listings on any websites for this machine, as least not for these particular parts. Of course, it was Dec 31, and Snow Blowers Direct was closed, so I could not call. I ended up going to Ace and buying a carriage bolt, washer and nut that looked to be the same size (516 x 18), but it did not fit quite right. I had to use pliers to "force" it to work. It should hold now. But, not cool for a $500 snow blower!
On the positive, it did make quick work of 3-4 inches of light, fluffy snow, even considering I had to snow blow areas that had "extra" snow due to the lack of throwing distance. But, it did leave about an inch of snow behind, as it does not seem to get right down to the pavement, and it blows snow out the back. We have a south facing driveway, and after shoveling, it is usually one of the first to completely clear. After blowing the snow on Dec 31, it is now Jan 2, and my driveway is the only one in the cul-de-sac that still has snow on it!!! Everyone else manually shoveled, and their driveways are clear to the concrete!
In looking back at the available snow blowers, I probably should have gotten a Toro. I notice there is one that has a large, pivoting scraper on the bottom, I assume this allows it to get the snow off right down to the concrete and prevent it from blowing back on your feet!
Bottom line, I'm extremely disappointed in this machine!

Good Snow Blower
I purchased the McCulloch MC 621 for my parents for Christmas. Had to use the customer service for a few questions at Snowblowers Direct. They were awesome.
My father loves the snowblower, he told me the snowblower has a lot of power and shoots the snow a good distance. He even liked it so much he cleaned the neighbor's sidewalk too. My father is in his late 70's and he appreciates the snowblower being light.
He said the only thing he doesn't like is the snow does blow on his feet causing them to get wet and cold. Maybe there is something we can adjust when we get to their house. Overall the snowblower was a good purchase.

First Use
I just put this together, put the oil and gas in and pumped the primer 3 times. Started on first pull! I did my entire driveway and the 5' sidewalk (I'm on a corner). The snow was about 3 inches deep and VERY wet. This thing powered through without any problem at all.
I had two issues:
1. The chute didn't like to stay put. The ratchet system seems to be a little loose but I'm not sure if it can be tightened.
2. (this is the most annoying) Snow was shooting straight back at my feet, thus soaking my shoes and creating a less than clean path. Again, not sure if I can adjust something..
Overall I'm very pleased with the power and throw of this but quite unhappy with the snow blowing back underneath the machine.

Great Buy
The snow blower blows a long ways and works well. The only problem we have found so far is that the plastic needed to be cut where the handles attached because the panels did not come together properly. This was easy to do with a Dremel and so far we've been very happy.
