I bought the McCulloch MC621 snow thrower. The motor is fine and starts easy. My trouble is the snow that comes
back from under the machine and on my feet. It also leaves snow after it's path. It does not clean down to the cement like Toro and other snow throwers. My neighbor bought a used MTD single stage and his cleans right down to the cement. I have to almost push this one.

Hang Up The Shovel
The snow blower arrived after a series of storms the first part of February in the N. East. Very little assembly and it sat in the garage for 3 weeks. Then it snowed.
Well the machine started up electrically with no problem and I proceeded to learn how to use it. Specifically staying upwind of the discharge. The machine threw snow 30 plus feet even the heavier bottom snow. With heavier snow you have to set the chute with very little downward angle or it will clog.
The machine does kick back snow onto your boots, so wear higher boots. Does a good job.

Not Wild About This Mcculloch
Don't care for it. Blows to much snow back at you under the machine so your shoes and pants get soaked. Next one will be a two stage. Next time I'll try the pr624es or a Husqvarna.

Good Single Stage Blower
It was delivered on time, the evening of a 8" storm. A lot of comments mentioned that it spewed snow under the blower onto your boots. They were right on! BUT it was easy to fix, just adjust the scrapper blade and it was minimized.
In summary, a good choice, good price. Just a side note. My previous one was a small Toro, about 25 lbs. This one is not light, 90 lbs.

Global Warming In Nj
I had a Toro electric snow blower that caught on fire. With the increased precipitation in NJ from global warming, stores were out of shovels and snow blowers. I ordered online and the snowblower came on time and worked. It is the first gas powered blower I ever owned that started when I pulled the cord.

How Is It Fixed
I have now used it twice and it is fine, as of now. I had owned a Troy bilt and it broke after two hours. I am having the same problem of snow out the back. How is it fixed. I can't even find it on a McCulloch site. Overall it seems ok. I purchased it the other day from a shop and they have an excellent rep and put it together. But I really would like to know how to fix this annoying problem..

Mcculloch Mc621es Not A Happy Story
After reading the reviews and looking at various blowers I thought the McCulloch would fill our needs. One of the reasons for the selection was that I was getting messages from SB Direct that the blower was in-stock, ready to ship. As Long Island, NY was expecting to get another 16" of snow, I not only ordered the machine but paid the extra $50.00 for express same day shipping, as it turned out the blower shipped a day or day and a half later therefore it arrived the day after the storm and a day after I hand dug myself out, not an auspicious start.
Assembly was simple and easy I had the machine together, oiled and gassed withing 45 minutes. The blower started on the second pull. I let it warm up and the engine smooth out. The was still snow to clear from the driveway. I started at the garage and proceeded towards the street approximately 50 feet away. By the time I reached the street I noticed my feet were covered in snow and the driveway (asphalt) was not cleared. At this moment the blower quit running and would not restart. I brought it back to the garage waited a half hour and tried again, it would not start. Less than an hour and I have a dead machine.
I called SB Direct and was told there was nothing you could do except refer me to the manufacturer. McCulloch told me my only recourse was to take it to an approved service dealer. At nearly 70 years old I had to pack this thing into the trunk of the car and haul it to a service center. The mechanic looked it over and said he would have to get back to me. This was a Friday afternoon with more snow expected the following week. I picked up the blower the following Monday and brought in home and reassembled the blower for the next storm. Apparently the spark plug wire burned itself in half.
On Tuesday of the next week we received another 6" of snow, this should be a piece of cake. Cranked up the blower and made one pass down the driveway and again the blower quit. I packed it up again and took it back. This time, a piece of metal the surrounds the spark plug was causing the problem plus I also complained about the back-blow from the blower. I picked up the blower again this time in preparation for a 19" storm.
I have to say that this time the machine worked as it should and the mechanic did something to lower the setting and stopped 90% of the blow-back. Am I am happy customer? No I am not, time will tell. If this machine continues to crap out I guarantee SB Direct, McCulloch and I will be on a first name basis. If things turn around and this machine performs as I believe it should for what it cost I will be more than happy to write a second review.

Apparently, the spark plug wire disconnected during my first use in the snow.....after reconnecting, the blower fired right back up. My revised review would be that the unit is OK...but, in reality, I have never, in my life, had a spark plug wire become disconnected all by itself....in the middle of running....

My 30 Year Old Toro Is Way Better.
Purchased in October, to be ready for the snow season. Product arrived on time, as ordered. I uncrated, added the oil, added fresh gas, and the unit started right up on the first pull. I started it every week just to make sure that it would be ready when needed.
First snowfall of the year, the blower started without any problems.....THEN, the problems started....the blower only ran for about 5 minutes before it quit...no sputtering, laboring, choking...just quit. I hauled it back into the garage, restarted the machine and, again, it ran for a bout 3 minutes and stopped.
Loosened the fuel cap (unvented, by the way). Let the machine "rest" for a while..Could not get the unit re-started. Got my 30 year old Toro out of the basement, fired it right up, and completed the job. Still trying to start the McCulloch with no success. I am NOT impressed with McCulloch..I called "customer service" and the woman on the other end had no idea what to do except to tell me to take it to a repair shop in my area. Nice! Cannot recommend. Will take it to a repair shop and try to sell it.

Delivered in 3 days just in time for 10 inches of snow. Put together in 5 minutes. Easy easy easy. Went through snow like butter. Neighbor loved it too. So far so good. No need for electric starter, fired right up every time on one pull. No problems except one loose bolt on chute.

I purchased my McCULLOCH from a local power equipment dealer. This blower has replaced a craftsman single stage blower that i have had for several years that started to break down. The McCULLOCH is far more powerful and very easy to maneuver. I just used it for the first time in 6+ inches of wet snow and I am very pleased with how it threw even wet snow, the only problem I had was your feet are covered in snow from under the bottom of machine other than that extremely pleased with its power.

Blows Snow Under Blower
There is so much snow coming under the blower it completely coats your boots and pants. Is this normal? I have never seen any other blower do this.

Great Snowblower, Great Service
Great snowblower for its size. The directional hood doesn't always stay in the direction you set it, it seems to wander back to either 90 degrees or most often to straight forward. Still looking for a way to tighten it down.
Kudos to Snow Blowers Direct! I was concerned about shipping such a large item and when it arrived it did have a broken oil cap. The staff an Snow Blowers Direct responded to the issue quickly and sent me a new oil cap.
The result is that I have a higher quality snow blower than what was available at the local big box stores, but at about the same price.
Snow Blowers Direct's customer service made the difference!

I purchased this snow thrower because I heard the McCulloch was a superior product to the MTD's and Toros. Wow I was right... my neighbor has a Toro (electric start as well). We both cleared our driveway for the first time a few days ago... my blower could shoot snow far enough to cover his driveway if needed!
My neighbors's Toro couldn't throw more than 8-10'. I cleared 3-4" of snow in a matter of minutes. Even wet stuff was not a problem (although the wet stuff will not throw as far).
The blower came ready to use... open the box, add the oil, tighten the handle and gas it up. Started first time using the electric start (way cool). Even the pull start was easy.
When clearing snow, this machine will pull itself along. After using, let the machine run for an additional 3-4 minutes, then shut down and put away...this extra run time will insure that the engine is hot so any extra snow will melt off when you put it away
I would highly recommend this product. Mine arrived in perfect shape, brand new right from the factory.

Dont Purchase A Mcculloch Product
First of all I would highly recommend purchasing from Snow Blowers Direct. Fast service and great customer service; they get a 10 rating. Called them when we received blower because oil cap was missing. They apologized and said they would send one out immediately.
However I wouldn't give McCulloch a one. I purchased this blower for my parents and received Dec. 2. Missing oil cap, electric plug start doesn't work. I called McCulloch Technical Service and they are RUDE. They said they aren't responsible for their machines. You need to call the engine company if you have problems with engine, transmission company if it's transmission and etc. They shipped 30 weight oil, yet their paperwork stated you can't use 30 weight below 50 degrees . It snows way below 50 degress in ND.
When asking the McCulloch customer service rep about what oil to use, he said that isn't their area. Call the engine company, which we have no information for. Where do you get all of these phone numbers and warranty forms? Maybe there isn't any warranty on the machine, can't tell no information. McCulloch just throws up their arms and states it's not their problem.
Search the internet for McCulloch - very bad ratings. I wish I would have done my homework on McCulloch before I wasted my time and money on this machine. Now we have a snowblower that doesn't have an oil cap, don't know what type of oil to place in the machine, the electric start doesn't work which you pay extra for and to return the machine I have to pay shipping for this product, plus my parents won't have a snowblower in the mean time. Merry Christmas.
We found a cap in our house that would fit the snowblower so we could try it out, added the 30 weight oil, but don't know if this will hurt the machine, and electric start didn't work so we pulled the cord. We received 5 inches of light snow and the blower did blow the snow off the driveway and sidewalks. Due to not having any customer service for this product I would highly recommend you purchase a different brand.
