Considering a Toro
I've owned this Murray snow blower for 3 years.
In very light snow, up to 3 inches, it does a serviceable job. However, in wet snow or any snow over 4 inches, the chute clogs and it takes forever to clear my drive way.
Also, it doesn't throw the snow more than about 15 feet max. So I'm considering buying a Toro.
They are a lot more expensive but they appear to do a much better job, based on seeing my neighbors and reading the reviews.

Single Stage Blowers Are For Suckers!
Single Stage snow blowers are USELESS! I don't care what the engine HP is. It always clogs in wet snow.
I had one and it went to the junk yard. I now have a 9hp. 2 stage snow blower and it rarely clogs with wet snow. Also you can control how much snow it "swallows" so that it will not "choke".
Perhaps light single stage blowers may work for narrow pathways.
So learn from my mistake. DO NOT BUY A SINGLE STAGE SNOW BLOWER.

Murray 62145X4N is a workhorse; GREAT service!
I bought my first Murray 4.5 hp, 21" Blower in 1995, it is exactly the same as this one.
Other than replacing a spark plug or two, the only other maintenance was to replace the rubber blades on the auger.
I have abused the old one for 12 Michigan winters and because it works so well I decided to order a replacement, just in case. . . I figure I can always use the old one at my shop since it still has lots of life left in it.
I ordered this new one on Friday afternoon from Snow Blowers Direct.com and it arrived at my home the following Monday. GREAT service!
I still haven't tried the electric start, but out of the box it started the third pull and works just like the old one. This machine quickly moves lots of snow. I have to blow snow over a 6 ft fence, and this works great.
This is the best unit I have ever owned, or used.

This is a reliable snowblower
I've had this showblower for 4 years now. I can not complain so far, this thing always starts.
I would prime it 3 times and it always starts on the first or second pull, regardless of temperature! Of course, at below zero there is usually no snow, but I've tried to check if it would start at 10-15 degrees below zero and it DID!
Please remember that your machine will give you the best performance when you give IT your best maintenance! I always change the spark-plug once every two years. I've just installed a new spark plug this November 2008.
Always use new gas / oil mix and drain in late spring before storage. Right now, the snow is not thrown as far as it did when it was new. I think the belt may be a bit worn or loose. I will have to get a new belt this year.
The chute is a bit of a problem though, it can no longer turn. I believe there is a screw that fell from the mechanism, I'll have to pull out the top cover to fix it and I have not done it yet. The chute stopped working last year (after 3 years). This is the reason why I gave it a 4 star rating.
Other than the chute, everything else works great!

Murray Single Stage (21") 4.5-HP Electric Start Snow Blower Review
I bought this thrower at the end of last winter, so after months of waiting I was eager to finally use it!
Today was the day...or so I thought.
I tried firing up the thrower & it wouldn't turn over. After the 20th pull I decided that I had given the neighbors enough of a show and had probably flooded the carburetor. I brought out my shovel & got to work.
I started shoveling, and after about 30 minutes I thought I'd give it another try. I primed it 10 times (instead of the 5 it said in the manual) & vroom, it fired up!
Awesome! I was done with my driveway & sidewalk, but I really bought this thrower so I could also do my neighbor's sidewalks.
I didn't even get two feet on their sidewalk before the chute got clogged- what a let down. After the repeated attempts I went online to find a remedy.
I came across Snow Blowers Direct & found the "non stick spray" products. Luckily I had some Pam handy & decided to give it a try. As you can see from the picture, not bad. Not great, but not bad.
I can't wait to try Sno Jet to see what a difference it makes!
SBD RESPONDS: It appears you didn't have the electric start model, but we hope you enjoy your free can of Sno-Jet!
