When I got the roller skids for my Ariens I noticed right off that the wheels were plastic, not the metal I originally thought they were. Additionally they did not even appear to be nylon or other tough plastic.
They went on easily and were easy to adjust to spec. They worked great clearing my small sized smoothly paved driveway for two storms. Then in the third storm I noticed that the left side was dragging a bit but continued until the driveway was clear. I then found that the left wheel had locked up for unknown reasons and had ground the bottom off so it looked like a flat tire. It has to be replaced already. Not very good quality if you ask me.
Roller skids make moving and turning the machine so easy, especially with the engine off, that I want to replace the wheels. But if I don't find a tougher material I will get out the old lathe and make me up a set in nylon, or even steel with bearing inserts.
