A Better Way To Snow Blow
The innovative, new Roller-Skid snow blower skid shoe was originally developed simply to make snow blowing easier.

I found that the steel skids on my 2-stage snow thrower would constantly grab and pull my machine until I became exhausted trying to control it. I was also annoyed that the steel skids were scuffing up the concrete on both my driveway and the front walk.

After substituting a simple pair of wheels for the steel skids I found that they worked well, but that I missed the... more

Not Impressed- Could Have Been Great If Better Quality Wheels
I don't see how these are going to last very long. They are made out of plastic and the wheels will not hold up rolling over concrete, they will go flat after one or two uses. My fault for buying these but I thought I would give them a try since I only get 2-3 uses out of the metal shoes. It sure does get expensive to keep a snow blower going. I am going to fabricate my own brackets and buy wheels at the big box store for a couple bucks each and just change them out as needed, a lot less... more

Fast Wearing Roller Wheel
The roller wheels wear very fast and end up with flat spots. The plastic skid also has a tendency to climb on top of the snow rather than keeping the auger housing close to the work surface. Going to remove them and replace with my own version of a pizza cutter wheel.

Great Idea, But......
The roller skid is a great idea for replacing the skids on a snow thrower. The material that the housing and wheel is made of is a durable product and helped to keep the purchase cost down. As were many others though, I was concerned with the fact that the plastic wheels will wear quickly, but I came up with a fix that I think will solve that problem. Using a piece of 2" steel conduit, I cut two 1 5/8" wide "tires" which I then lightly hammered onto the wheels for a nice,... more

Outstanding!
These are fabulous! I have a very steep asphalt driveway (in the Rocky Mountains). Due to side slopes and slight undulations in the surface of the driveway, I was constantly wrestling with directional control. These rollers took all the struggle out of steering, and they significantly reduced friction which taxed the traction of my machine on the uphill pass. There is only one downside, and I say this tongue-in-cheek - I have to gear down the machine on the downhill pass, because that lack... more

Roller Skid Snow Thrower Skid Shoe
I am having a real problem with the wheels jamming up with snow and ice and then they do not turn so they do not function very well. I am almost to the point where I am going to put the old skid shoes back on. I tried graphite lubricate and that helped a little but not much. The design seems poor and the housing for the wheel needs to be more open so snow and ice cannot jam the wheels up.

Good Alternative To Skid Plates
I purchased the roller skid shoes to replace the worn out metal skids I have kept replacing about every other year for 18 years now. I keep checking the rollers in the skids to see how they are wearing and after three huge snow storms in Utah these shoes have done a very nice job. Pros: They roll easily on the sidewalks and pavement navigating uneven surfaces just fine. In fresh snow they work very well and are easily adjusted. So far they seem to be very reliable. The wider foot-print they... more

Great Design
A great design makes maneuverability easier on my new blacktop driveway and circular drive- the design is great.

I would have preferred this in a metal frame rather than high density plastic-I actually started to crush the nut into the plastic
outer frame. I think making this in would be better, but I still am happy with the purchase of these.

I think a disclosure of the material is in order.

Roller Skids
Looks like a great idea, but I was disappointed after first time use. I just had a concrete driveway installed last summer and thought these would work great on it. They did for maybe 1 hour. Both sides developed flat spots, not sure if it was from ice or anti-skid from plow truck at the end of drive. Either way should last longer than 1-2 hours. Now with the flat spots they will wear down prematurely. The wheels needs to be made out of a harder more durable material.

Wore Down Quickly
Loved these skid shoes when I installed them, what a great idea, I thought. We got 5 inches of snow about a week or so ago and used my brand new snowblower and skids for about two hours clearing my driveway. I just spent some time today cleaning the machine and noticed that these skid shoe wheels were worn flat on one side. Now the blower thumps up and down when I push it and the wheels are pretty much shot. So they pretty much lasted me about two hours and now have to be replaced. I will... more

Ice....roller...not So Much
I bought these rollers and considered the concept a great idea. However, in practice, not so good. The wheels will get bound with ice, especially if you keep your snow blower outdoors. Soon after you will develop a flat spot in the roller which in turn will create the same problem you were trying to solve in the first place....a skid that wears down.

You would be better served buying heavy duty skids.

These suck. Right wheel froze and just drug along, now it's flat spotted and rolls like an egg. Useless now, so off they cam. One snow and done. Oh wait, I can get a $10 set of replacement wheels! Not a chance. Waste of $30

Did Not Last Long
The first day of use, they worked great. Happy to have rollers on bare concrete and they seemed to jump sidewalk cracks well. However, on day two, one wheel froze, and the wheel scuffed flat right through the wheel rim. Day three, the bottom section holding what's left of the wheel broke off entirely. So, I'm going back to skids not as elegant, but more reliable. These rollers are nice idea, but this design did not hold up to use.

So Far, So Good
This is a follow up to my first post on 12/4/13. After several uses, my wheel modification is working great! The steel tires I made from 2" conduit are working as I had hoped and do not seem to be marring the asphalt or concrete surfaces. They also have not shifted on the plastic wheels, so the fit is more than tight enough without any need for gluing them to the wheels. I also have not experienced any lock up of the wheels when the housing gets filled with snow and ice. I see no reason... more

Roller Skids, Sloppy Snow = Garbage
Colorado foothills got hammered last night I was excited to try out my new roller skids I’d just gotten. 10” of snow, the bottom inch was pretty sloppy due to warm asphalt driveway, as preventive measures with this type of snow, I hose the chute down with cooking spray or WD-40 to keep from sticking so much. Didn’t think to spray the skids, after five minutes the wheels on the skids were frozen solid, I cleaned them off and used WD to coat them. They lasted about 10 minutes, then frozen... more

Great Idea But Does Not Endure
"What a great idea" is what I thought when I purchased these. However, as I found out, this is a nasty environment to expect a roller wheel to operate all of the time. Prone to freezing up and flat spotting.

Buy These!
I have a huge MTD PRO 357 cc snow blower and it is a Beast.
It throws a lot of snow and throws it far! That's the good part. That bad part is that its a bit heavy and more so on one side. So it tends to pull to one side and wear me out. SO......I found these roller skids and they are fantastic. Totally makes doing the job easier! Its like guiding a large roller skate around on my driveway now to remove all the snow and I don't even break a sweat!!!

Roller Skid On Macadam Driveway
I have a Ariens snow blower that I use to clear snow from my driveway. The snow blower work very well and I am very pleased with it. Here in western North Carolina we do not get a lot of snow, but the last 2 years has been very harsh with a lot of deep snow, 8 to 20 inches at a time.

My drive way is macadam which is very abrasive, and about 640 ft. long. The original skids on the snow blower only lasted for 3 clearings of the driveway before wearing out. So I purchased the roller skids and... more

Roller Skid Snow Blower Wheels
I bought these for my MTD Yard Machines snow blow since I run on concrete and my skids wear out about every 3 runs (large area). The first run worked great! I hope they hold up for at least 1 year. However, they should have included larger washers to go on the wheel side. The groves are wider than normal and my stock bolts tended to bite into the plastic body when tightening the nylock nuts. They should supply a larger and thicker than normal washer to prevent damaging the slots since... more

Metal Is Better
I bought a set in 2014 with an added set of wheels. There is a problem with the design:
1. If the slush freezes, the wheels stop turning and wear out in an instant which happened during the first snow of the season in 2015.
2. The housing is not durable. After replacing the worn wheels, I noted that one housing was cracked, but the wheel still worked. After a glancing blow from a curb, the intact housing shattered. Fortunately, I still had a set of Oregon skids to return the machine to... more

Superb Product
This product is awesome. I just installed and used these the first time today. I had 8" of snow and with these skids, my snow blower just glided along. And as I write this it is snowing like mad out so I will be using them again tomorrow. Some folks mentioned that they had issues with snow clogging the skid and thus jamming the rollers. The precaution I took against this is when I installed them a couple days before the storm, I sprayed the rollers good with WD-40. This seems to have been... more

Wish I'd Invented These
After replacing my driveway in '05, I had the contractor put what he called a "California Finish" on the concrete. Essentially, they dragged a broom across the surface to give it a lightly grooved finish. It looks very nice. However, here in Northwest Indiana, this finish is very rough on snow removal equipment. Plastic snow shovels are reduced to 2/3's their original size as the finish acts as a rasp on everything that comes into contact with it. This has been true with the skids... more

Roller Wheels
Purchased a set of roller skids to replace the worn metal units on my 12 yr. old Ariens. After reading a few reviews I was worried about the wheels sticking and becoming flat from non-movement. I took the liberty to grease the shaft and remove any excess snow when done. I have 400' of walk and 50'x 30' driveway. As I maintain the unit very well I foresee no problems with the rollers 4 snow falls later from 1" to 10 " no problem. Recommended them to a neighbor with the same blower

If you have a two stage snow blower with those ridiculous " What were they thinking? " plastic skid plates that wear like crazy and cause you have to keep adjusting them to maintain housing ground clearance, I highly recommend these wheels.

Plastic skid plates against concrete, that's like a perpetual grinding wheel. What idiot at Craftsman and other companies thought of that one?

These 3rd party wheels are a definite that solution to your OEM problem.

This fall I purchased a new Husky 12527HV 27", 8.5 hp 291 c.c. blower after having a 6.5 horse Honda for about 15 years. I miss the hydrostatic transmission that was on the Honda tremendously. I get about 1/2 inch - same as the skids I replaced after doing about $500 worth of glass damage to my wife's car with crushed stone from my driveway. They could have easily added another inch of clearance. I'm disappointed.

Excellent Skid Shoe - Works Like A Charm
This is a great product; it makes the blower glide effortlessly and turn easily. I can honestly say that it has significantly reduced the effort it takes to clear the driveway.

It was easy to install - it took about ten minutes - and the slots lined up perfectly.

An added bonus is that there is no more scraping or gouging the driveway.

Highly recommended.

They bolted on in seconds with instructions on how to properly set the height. In less than 5 minutes I was kicking along. I even did two of my neighbors driveways...

Great Product For Your Snowthrower
I had put these on just before we had a snowstorm come in and they worked great! When I took off the skid plates that were originally on the snow thrower the one plate had a hole where it had rusted threw. Once I got the rollers the snow thrower was so mush easier to use.
Pros: Durable, Easy To Use
Cons: Expensive
