| Snow Blowers Direct Recommendation |
| By Snow Blowers Direct |
This is the best Toro single-stage snow blower -- except for one minor thing.
This model doesn't feature an electric start engine. For some people, it's a deal breaker.
However, if you don't mind pulling the recoil start, it's a deal maker. You can actually save significant money by simply yanking the cord instead of plugging it in to the wall outlet.
Besides, the electric start cord isn't included with Toro snow blowers anymore. Even if you had one, you'd probably misplace it during the summer anyway.
Great features. 4-Cycle - no gas or oil mix. Overall, a good value. |

| Love My New Snow Thrower |
| By Ed (Rockville Centre, NY) |
Thanks for the quick shipping and great handling of my order. All is great.
It was very easy to assemble and after adding oil and gas, it was one pull of the cord and I was off.
We've had 2 snowfalls since and it has performed like a champ.
I would recommend you to anybody looking for a Snow Blower/Thrower. |

| Does everything it is supposed to do! |
| By Rod (Baltimore, MD) |
This unit dug me out of the Mid-Atlantic back to back snow storms with no sweat.
Set up was easy, it started on the first pull, and within two minutes had the hang of it.
I did the second half of my drive way in twenty minutes with the blower--the first half had taken 4 back-breaking man-hours of shoveling to do.
I went out and did some neighbor's walks and driveways just so I could change the 2 hour break-in oil.
I never thought snow removal could be so much fun! |

| This blower was a lifesaver |
| By Charlton (Mclean, VA) |
I ordered this blower to replace my 10 year old machine that bit the dust. It literally arrived on my doorstep the day before the biggest storm to hit the D.C. area since 1899.
In a span of 2 weeks I think it already paid for itself. I purchased this prosumer model as I have a professional home office with many patients coming in.
The machine was quite robust and was able to handle the heavy task of clearing plowed snow from the side street areas for parking.
The design of this machine is very consumer friendly. Starting is easy, and the maneuverability and handling are such that my wife could even use it.
Oil changes are a breeze with this unit, which was not the case with my previous machine. I would highly recommend this model. |

| Great Service Experience |
| By Luis Arellano (Wadsworth, OH) |
I just received my new snow throwing, man grunting machine and I can't wait until the next snowfall! Bring it!
I am writing this review for a couple of reasons.
First:
AWESOME SERVICE!! Every time I have spoken to someone at SBD they have been nothing short of true professionals, very courteous and knowledgeable! I happen to be very demanding when it comes to good service - I think everyone should be - and they exceeded my expectations!
Second:
The shipping experience has been wonderful! SBD had my snowblower in my garage in 2 days!! When I received it, i followed the super easy instructions on the minimal steps to get it running and voila!! STARTED ON THE FIRST PULL!!
I'm always wary of ordering items like this online, but this has been a truly great experience! SBD has definitely delivered on their promise.
Once I use my machine a couple of times, I'll write a review on the performance of the machine.
KUDOS SBD! |

| Good Snowblower, Couple Minor Issues |
| By Peter Antipatis (Berkeley Heights, NJ) |
This is my third snowblower, the first was a mid-range two stage (for a big, wide driveway) that was quite problematic; the second was a small single-stage that did the job on what was a much smaller driveway; and now the Toro 421, which I upgraded to to handle my new 300 foot long, slightly uphill, curved driveway with a large parking area at the top.
I used the smaller single stage I had to clear the first snow we got about a month ago, about 10 inches of powdery stuff, with 1.5 foot drifts, and it did the job with some pushing and prodding; so I thought I better get something a bit more powerful and convenient.
OK, so enter the Toro. First I'll say the experience with SBD was pleasant, great site, easy ordering process, fast delivery, and the Toro was intact. Getting it ready for first use was a snap, (you will want to have a funnel handy for the oil, or tilt the machine up a bit to get at it). It started on the first pull, and I was happy. As some other people have said, the engine is a little "rough" running (vibration, sound).
First snowfall came just a day later, only about 2-4 inches of powdery snow, and the Toro went thru it like butter, not throwing very far, but I didn't expect it to with so little snow to push through. It moved fast, I actually had to slow the machine down going downhill, which was fine with me, but might be challenging for an older man or woman.
Second snowfall was about a foot of very heavy, packed snow, which I figured would be a great test for the new blower, and the results were good. I first went at it with about 8 inches on the ground, and most areas took 2 passes to get down to the asphalt, the weight of the machine was just not enough to keep it on the ground. It left about 2-3 inches of heavily packed snow behind it, which it did scrape up on the second pass. Some areas took 3 passes to get clean.
I am not sure if any single stage machine could have handled this snow easily though, probably only a larger, very heavy two-stage could have cut into it completely in one pass.
After the remaining 4-5 inches fell, I went over everything again, and this time, one pass was enough, quick and easy. Again, the blower was really pulling me DOWN the driveway, I have to say it was not easy to control. I'm 6 feet tall, 200 lbs, and can lift 200 lbs over my head, so it's not lack of strength on my part.
As other reviewers mentioned, I got a snow dusting getting kicked back under the machine at my feet, I will have to call Toro and see what they say about it. It was not the biggest deal in the world, but annoying, and if it's not supposed to be happening, then it shouldn't be happening.
The quick chute feature is absolutely TERRIFIC. The chute also never clogged, which actually surprised me a bit given the heaviness of the snow. I sprayed the chute with silicone spray before use, and it worked beautifully.
I'll update this next week- we're supposed to get more snow. |

| Life saver machine! |
| By TX Chick in No VA (Reston, VA) |
This big-little guy arrived just in time for the latest 6-8" snowfall. That doesn't sound like much unless you are 5'2" and already exhausted from the previous 2.5 ft snow. Not to mention that the existing snow piles are over my head at this point!
Picture shows the new 421QR next to its smaller sibling, the Toro 1800. The 1800 works great but we needed more power for all this snow.
This machine started up, first pull, and took over our cleanup. Several of us single females are in love with this guy.
Thank you, Snow Blowers Direct! |

| Works great |
| By Jim (Tarentum, PA) |
I just received my new snow blower, and it had a cracked left wheel. The box was a little banged from shipping so I am guessing UPS did that.
I called SBD and they said they would have a new wheel shipped to me. I had to try it anyway. It cleans down to the sidewalk and really moves the snow 20 to 30 feet.
It works great and started on the 2nd pull with the choke pulled out the whole way. After 5 seconds I pushed the choke in and started blowing snow. |

| Glad I bought this Toro! |
| By EHK (Troy, VA) |
I just used this Toro blower for the past 3 days during and after our 3rd major snow storm this season!
A total of 18" fell at my place and it was a breeze keeping my 200' driveway clear of snow with this blower. I ordered this machine online a week ago today (Sunday), received it on Thursday as promised and unpacked it.
After filling it with oil (a little tricky - see below) and gas, it started on the first pull!!! The next day it was put to good use.
I changed the oil, as specified, after the first two hours of running the machine. The oil change was quite simple if you just follow the directions in the owner's manual.
As noted before, the oil fill process can be tricky unless you use a funnel with a tube connected to it. That made the process much easier and did not allow any unwanted spillage.
Lastly, using SnowBlowersDirect.com was easy and simple - I would purchase from them again in the future! |

| Great buy! |
| By Dan (Beloit, OH) |
I just used this the 6th time this year. Here in Northeast Ohio, we got hit with snow last night.
This machine has a max height intake of about 12.5". It definitely passes the test on deep snow. I was taking on 12.5" of snow with this machine today, and it threw the 12.5" of snow without a problem and far, too. No clogging problems either.
I had a 16" snow drift in my drive. It took care of this, but of course, I had to take it on in halves though.
It also had no problems with the snow that was left behind by the city plow.
I had replaced my scraper bar because I was having problems with snow blowing back at my feet. This seem to help, but I still have this occurring. I noticed that it only does this when I am clearing light amounts of snow, or like today when I was going over areas of my drive that still had a dusting after I cleared off the heavy stuff.
I do not know why this is, but overall the machine is awesome.

| Grand Island, New York Snow Veterans |
| By Christopher and Loretta (Grand Island, NY) |
My husband is the snowblower king and has tried it on frozen, icy, chunky snow, which he says surprisingly did not pose a problem with this TORO model.
It has worked equally as well on deep, powdery snow. He welcomes the four stroke engine versus the two stroke models, which is so much more convenient.
The only concern is that it vibrates a lot. So be prepared for a hand and arm workout. Good luck and enjoy your winters more! |

| Good one |
| By Dan (Beloit, OH) |
This snow blower does great. I live out in the country here in Ohio and have had to use this about 5 times so far.
The highest total of snow so far this year was about 6 inches and this blower took care of it with ease. This machine even tackles the snow at the end of my driveway that the city plow leaves behind. I go slow through it but it still gets the job done to where I do not even have to shovel.
The zip deflector is nice because I get lots of wind out here and sometimes it is easy to just go with the wind, but sometimes I have to go against the wind when the wind is blowing all over. During these times, I just lower the zip deflector, which throws the snow at a low angle, which then the wind is not much a factor, so that I do not have a lot of it blowing into my face.
The quick shoot is also good to have. I have not had any problems with clogging either.
As far as the electric start, forget about it. It cost a $100 more. The recoil system is so easy to pull that an older person can do it with ease. It starts with the first pull.
I do wish though it was easier to tell how much fuel you have in it. There is no way of telling how much fuel is in it, even when you take the cap off.
Here is the reason why I gave it a 4 out of 5. I have noticed that mine spits out a dusting of snow here and there at my feet. the Toro company said that this is not normal and I had took it in to get looked at but they said everything checked good. I know some blowers you have to lift up on, but you do not need to on this. And I don't. But for some reason, I get snow that shoots back at my feet. So next time, I use the blower, I'll see what it does, and if it keeps doing this. Then I'll have to ask the Toro company what to do next.
Has anyone else reading this have this problem with this model? Overall, good machine.
SBD RESPONSE: Dan, sounds like you simply need to adjust the scraper bar at the bottom of the snow blower. Check out our video on how to do on our YouTube channel. Take care. |

| Good luck changing the oil |
| By Chuck Thompson (Mt Prospect, IL) |
This snow blower is great until you have to change the oil.
You have to be a magician in order to change the oil without spilling half of it.

| Excellent Buy, Easy to Use |
| By Ryan (Sun Prairie, WI) |
I'm surprised there are no reviews posted yet for this blower. I've used it twice now, and what a fantastic machine.
1. Incredibly fast processing and shipping by SnowBlowersDirect.com. I ordered on a Wednesday night and had my blower by the end of next business day. Brilliant. Not to mention your savings on sales tax and inclusion of shipping in the price keeps it simple to buy.
Try purchasing something like this online from one of the big box outlets and you'll be surprised how it all adds up once you get to checkout. Or, this time of year, try finding one in stock at your local big box store or power equipment dealer.
2. Easy out of the box. My only complaint in assembly is the 20 oz. oil bottle included is too much to fill, despite contrary statements in the Owner's Manual. I used most of the bottle when filling the engine for the first time, but then had to drain a substantial amount after filling.
When the instruction manual says "20 oz. max fill," you would assume someone at Toro would have checked that out for accuracy before print. It's probably more along the lines of 10 oz. before you're spilling out of the nearly horizontal oil fill spout.
3. Unless you are elderly or have a disability, there is absolutely no need for the extra $'s for the electric start 421QE. The first time I started my 421QR, it started immediately...absolutely no problems or strain. And the pull was very easy...save it or spend your $100+ elsewhere.
Coming from my last old school giant two-stage that went belly up a few years ago, this was an amazing upgrade in ease of use and functionality.
4. Belts get right down to pavement (used on concrete driveway & sidewalk). Even does an admirable job of pulling up matted tire and foot tracks.
5. While not technically self-propelled, it sure moves with ease and pulls itself along, throwing farther the faster you're able to go.
6. Throwing capability for even heavy snow and ice is excellent for a single stage blower. I was impressed by my neighbor's Honda single-stage until I got the 421QR up and running.
I've discovered first hand why the Power Clear series is so highly rated by users and experts alike. Bring on the snow! |
