1 Question
Q: Hello: What is meant by Toro's "electric strart" gas powered snowblower i.e. 210E model? With a charged battery, do you simply turn a key or push a button - requiring no need to pull the starter cord/coil?
Also, at this time of yeat (4/11) would I not expect to find snowblowers on sale ? What would be considered a fair discount off/end of season? Ty - Markl
by Mark Adelizzi from New Jersey on April 11, 2011
A: In terms of electric start on a snow blower, there is not going to be a battery. The electric start would be a 120V electric start. Meaning you would plug the a regular cord 120V cord into the snow blower and then plug the other end into a wall outlet and push the button and the snow blower would start.
There is no key no battery because snow blowers, for the most part are seasonal items. With such little use snow blowers can get from year to year, having a battery could become problematic and failure of the battery would become a problem. The snow blowers would also have a recoil backup on them as well, so if you were out in the middle of your driveway, you would not have to go back to a plug in to start the machine.
In terms of discounted offers. The best time to buy truly is the beginning of the season. Most likely you could find some great deals from last years models in July/August.
I have a story nearly identical to Brian from Cleveland from earlier this month..and only 20 miles away.
Had a Toro snowblower for 15 years so when it finally gave out in early 2011, I purchased another Toro, model 38593, the Power Clear 210E. I used it for one snowstorm in Spring 2011. With no problems, followed procedures to store over summer, then gassed it up and used for our first 2011-2012 snowfall. Worked fine until I noticed in the morning after I used it that all the gas leaked out onto my garage floor! I did some research online and it looks like this model is known for issues with carb, gas leakage, etc.
Like Brian from Cleveland, I'm very disappointed. I now need to take it to authorized Toro service center who I guess will inspect and determine what the issue is, if under warranty, etc. Another example of a once great company known for quality now putting out bad product, probably to compete on price.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed. I now need to take it to authorized Toro service? I will try calling Toro, but I'm not encouraged by what I read online.

Leaked Gas All Over Floor

Shoveling made easier
I have but one regret. Why did I wait so long to buy this?
This winter has put a lot of snow on the ground. The Toro snow blower made the job of clearing as close to pleasure as one could expect from such a chore.
Thank you, Toro

Loved It Until Yesterday
Got my 210E in mid-Dec. It was all it was cracked up to be: easy start, plenty of power, really cleans the walks quickly and thoroughly. After about 20 hours of use... yesterday, Feb.8, it threw me a curve. The impellers kept turning even though the control handle was released! I used it to clear 6-8" of snow from all the walks in the neighborhood---about three-fourths of an hour. After I shut it off, I followed the instructions to adjust the control cable. I restarted it----same problem.
Today, after poring over the manual, I took the drive belt cover off. The drive belt was worn out, and a one-half in. bolt was jammed between the belt and the idler pulley! Upon further inspection I could see that the bolt had fallen out of its hole between the rotor pulley and the drive pulley. I removed the loose bolt, put it back where it belonged, put the cover back on, and readjusted the control cable. Now the snowblower starts as always, but the rotor blades continue to turn regardless of the position of the control handle.
Technical support has been of no assistance: "Take it to a Toro dealer." But the nearest dealer is 60 miles away and the roads are ice and snow. I know it's something simple, but I'm frustrated.

So far...so good
We have used the blower twice and so far, so good. However, my husband has a couple of concerns. The main concern is that feels the machine is made up of too much plastic and it may break easily. The second concern is not really a concern but a wish. He would like to be able to change the direction of the blower by not changing his position from where he is standing. Rather, he must go around to reach the blower in order to change the direction.
We were very pleased with the speed we received our blower. Thank you for your concern.

A+ this is my second one
I love this little guy. Who needs electric start when it starts on the first pull every time (I wish my lawnmower did). Extremely powerful and fast, much faster than a typical two-stage. Sure, it doesn't do the huge buildup at the end of the driveway as well as I'd like, but, I've learned to take it in small swaths and to use a shovel to break down the 5-ft stuff. I just bought this one for my house in the mountains and my six year old one is going well, too.
Just make sure to change the belt every few years. I do it every three. You can find them online for about $9 each, so make sure to have a spare just in case.

Happy, Sad and Extremely Disappointed
Happy - how great it works as far as doing it's snow blower job, but sad that electric starter broke after 4th start. Thank goodness for pull start option. Extremely disappointed since one of main reasons I bought unit was electric start need since I'm getting a little older and wanted the ease that it carried. Can't get repaired yet since blizzard is on the way UGH !!!!!!!

Life-long Toro Owner
Over 30 years ago my parents bought my wife and I a Toro as a house-warming gift for our first home. It was most welcome as we both were working and needed to be out of the house by 7:00am. We weathered many winter storms for the last 33 years with that Toro. It started every year, needed very little maintenance, and did its job through powdery and wet snow, slush, and even ice. Better than Timex, it just kept on working year after year.
Last year the handle snapped off, but it continued to run. I thought about replacing the handle, but decided it had more than served me well, and ordered the new model. Once again, Toro has continued their fine line of snow blowers and I am well pleased with the new model. I would highly recommend this machine for any homeowner.
It is lightweight, easy to use for men or women, and does an excellent job under any weather condition. Toro will always be the snow blower for me and my family and I have purchased this model for our son and his family so they can benefit from this excellent product.

Best snowblower for a single family house in New England
We have been hit with two storms since I purchased this snowblower. One storm we got 18 inches. This model blew all of the snow out of our driveway and sidewalks with no problem. Our driveway is on a pretty good decline and this unit has no issues plowing the snow. My neighbors were shoveling for hours, I was able to get rid of all of the snow in a half an hour.
This unit is so easy to use. I was worried as a small female that this was going to be something that only my husband could use. I am the only person in the house that uses it.
I would highly recommend this unit to anyone.

Works great. Easy assembly. Fast delivery would recommend. Could use a key. Supposedly supplied but not in package.

no start
We ordered and received a Toro Snow Thrower. It looked beautiful out of the box similar to one we have had for 20 years and loved.
Problems started when my husband tried to start it. It would not start. He tried and tried finally he had to give up, our old Snow Thrower finally started and we were able to deal with the 25 inches of snow on Wed. 1/12. He took the new and improved Snow Thrower to a Toro dealer and it cost us an extra $88.42 to get it into working order, we hope.
The repair people: Flushed the fuel system, put in a new "carb kit" and charged shop labor.
The gas and oil was/is the the same used in the twenty year old toro we have, as they say "something is rotten in Denmark." As I was able to snow blow 24" of snow with the old snow blower, I'm a little put out with what has happened.

New blower
Just used it this week for the first time and loved it. It has a hard act to follow. I had a S200 that lasted over thirty years, blizzards and moved tons of snows. I expect a good deal from this one. I am sure it will do me good.

Great Snowblower
Just had the opportunity to use it. Works perfectly and much easier than my 33 year old Toro that just died. Love it.

Outperformed My Expectations
I live in Fresh Meadows, New York City, and last Sunday into Monday, we had a snow storm that dropped at my doorstep, 18 inches. Thankfully, I had the Toro Power Clear 210E snow blower to help me out.
I first went out on Sunday evening to remove the snow that had already accumulated. I used the electric start system, and with one push of the button, the snow blower was ready to work. It removed all of the snow effortlessly, and really got right down to the cement surface. I was so encouraged and wondered why I had never purchased a snow blower before. I am on a corner, and I have a large area that requires snow removal.
When the snowfall ended on Monday morning, I again went out to finish the work I had started. The snow blower did all of the work for me.....the self-propelling action made me the driver and the snow blower did all the work. It was great....and what could have taken days to shovel, the snow blower took less than one hour to complete the job.
I am not mechanically inclined, and when I received the snow blower it literally took only minutes to assemble. It was a pleasure and the instructions were easy to follow.
I am so pleased with this snow blower that I welcome the next snow storm. The performance really exceeded all of my expectations. Thank you Snow Blowers Direct for getting this machine to my house just as you promised. It is wonderful that there is no tax or shipping costs associated with the purchase. I encourage anyone to use Snow Blowers Direct - they have outstanding customer service.

Did not disappoint!!
I just used my Toro 210E for the first time in a 12" snow fall. It worked exactly as I hoped it would.
When the winter started to set in, I filled it with 2 cycle mix and did a first time start to make sure it was operating correctly.
About six weeks later we got the snow. Although this machine has an electric start, I did not use it. It was running with one pull of the cord after six weeks of sitting.
As far as moving the snow, again very impressive! The 210E pulls itself forward through the snow right down to my paving stone driveway, throwing the snow about thirty feet. At the end of the driveway where the heavy snow is plowed it still got through it. Not as easily as the 12" of light snow, But it was definitely not a problem.
All together I am 100% happy with my Toro 210E. It is perfect for my five car driveway, and makes short work of any snow Long Island N.Y. usually gets. I would highly recommend this machine!
