Answer
The auger would be plastic on this unit, if it was metal, it would do too much damage.

Is this usable on gravel and uneven walkway slabs

Answer
Yes, it's usable, but I never recommend any electric or gas-powered single stage snow blowers for gravel surfaces. The auger paddles on these models engage the surface being cleared of snow, so you will throw not only the snow, but small rocks and stones from your driveway as well.

Answer
Anthony - if you are going to use a cord of 100 feet or less, than a 14-gauge cord is the right cord. If you need over 100 feet of cord, you will need a 12-gauge cord.
